hanbin spun his pen in his hand, anxiously watching the entrance. he sighed and tried to focus on his work, but yuri was the only thing on his mind.

hanbin thought things couldn't possibly get worse until he saw hyesoo approaching him, a villainous smirk on her face.

"please don't even start," he begged, but he knew it was in vain.

"kang yuri couldn't even show up the first day," hyesoo mocked, "how pathetic. no wonder professor lim kicked her out of the-"

"hyesoo stop she's been going through a lot," he tried to defend her, but hyesoo's remarks had already gained the attention of everyone on the floor.

"hanbin, i don't get you. you defend her like she's your girlfriend, but she doesn't even respect you enough to show up," she shook her head.

"am i too late?" a voice interjected.

hanbin spun his chair around quickly, immediately recognizing the soothing voice. "YURI," he cheered, "you made it!" he smiled down at the girl, all annoyance leaving his body.

hyesoo rolled her eyes and walked back to her station. on the other hand, hanbin was thrilled to see yuri.

"sorry bin, i got lost," she whined, "i totally forgot where the building was." hanbin grinned, not caring if it was an excuse or not.

"don't worry~ take a seat! i'll set up your account access on our site," he ushered her next to him.

yuri nodded timidly, embarrassed by her tardiness. she could feel all the glares piercing her, but she tried to ignore it.

hanbin saw her expression and placed his hand on hers. "riri it's okay! really, you're just new and they're all introverts," hanbin laughed, trying to ease her anxiety.

after giving her site permissions, he tasked her with writing her first article.

yuri contemplated for a while, and before she knew it her and hanbin were the only two left in the room.

yuri pushed her chair to hanbin's and saw him focused on his research. she pouted, wishing that an idea came to her that easily. she poked his side gently.

hanbin looked toward her and smiled. "what's up, yuri?" he asked while pulling her closer to him.

yuri tried to respond, but her shock prevented her from doing so. "i couldn't focus," she managed to mutter.

he shook his head and gently played with her fingers, focusing on his own project once more.

"hanbin, can i ask you something," she whispered.

"of course," he shook his head while taking her hands in his.

"do you believe in destiny?"

he sat for a moment, genuinely thinking of a response.

"i would say so," he looked into her eyes, "fate brought us together at least."

yuri blushed and hid her face in his arm. "oh what the fuck" hanbin laughed and pinched her cheek softly.

yuri looked away, trying to hide her happiness. "i should go, it's late." she said, faking a yawn.

"okayy but text me when you get home... or else," he jokingly threatened.

yuri chuckled and nodded, "of course~ can't have my favorite editor worrying too much," she teased as she took her jacket and phone. "i'm heading out now," she added.

hanbin hummed and watched her as she left.
