I was so safe in the shelter of your
arms but then you left

Do I throw out everything we built or keep it?

I'm getting tired even for a phoenix

Always risin' from the ashes

Chapter 4 : No Shelter But Me

The night was draped in a tapestry of  stars twinkling above, casting a soft glow over the quiet petite place or a sling to be called the bed for tonight to sleep.

There sat a silhouette of a man, looking at the girl who is now drowsing in sleep , peacefully sleeing.

Mal sat down, pressing his back on the boat wall, looking at the round shape window that showed the onyx color of the outside sea view; his eyes shifted from the sleeping girl to the dimmed light that made the room visible.

The rhythmic sounds of the nearby groans and snores from the other privateer crews somehow provided a soothing backdrop to his thoughts, though his mind was far from tranquil.

His mind flashbacks into the Shadow fold where he had left his sister. He placed his hand to his wounded shoulder, the bullet felt as if it had been pulled out, but still the knot in his stomach felt as if the bullet remained still in his body.

He traced the outline of the worn pendant around his neck, a simple piece of crafting wood in a shape of half heart that connected him to Milene.

The pendant had been a gift from her on the day he was accepted in the First Army because of his extraordinary skills as a tracker. It held sentimental value, a token of their siblings' bond.

The crackle of the fire seemed to string the emotions swirling within him. Mal's brow furrowed as he wrestled with the conflicting feelings of duty and longing.
