Nora had begun to lose track of time since her imprisonment. She guessed it had been a few days or so.
Leviathan came running through the door, looking terrified.
"Leviathan?"
"Nora! You have to get out of here!" He whispered.
"I know that dummy,"
"You'll thank me later. No time to explain."
He grabbed a ring of keys from a desk across the room.
"What are you doing! Mara would kill you!"
"I know... But this isn't living either! It's better this way. We'll both get out..."
He found the right key, and the door to her cage opened with a sqeak.
"I'll lead you out, but then you have to go. Go as fast as you can. Don't look back."
"No! I'm not leaving you!"
"You have to. And you will! Go live your life with your family! Enjoy the moments I couldn't..."
Nora felt tears well up in her eyes. Though they hadn't known each other very long, they had become like brother and sister.
When Nora didn't follow him, Leviathan felt he had no choice but to drag her and try and keep her quiet long enough for her to get out.
"Hey! Let me go!"
"I'm sorry, Nora. For taking you in the first place. For not doing this sooner. For letting the others before you die to Mara's hand."
"That's not your fault! Come with me! We can be happy! You can be happy!"
For a moment, Leviathan actually considered it. Then he remembered what would happen if Mara found out. It would only bring Nora pain.
"This is where I belong. I know my place,"
Before Nora could react, Mara appeared right behind Leviathan, grabbing his arm, digging her nails into his skin until he bled.
"Oh Leviathan... It's ok... I'm not mad."
She then proceeded to throw him on the ground.
"Don't touch him!"
"Silly child... I'm not the bad guy here. I'm just giving him what he needs."
"He needs a real family! You're just some cruel bitch you enjoys watching him suffer!" She spat.
Mara was used to mortals like Leviathan to cower before her. This one was interesting... She showed no fear in her eyes.
Noticing Mara frozen, Nora took her chance and grabbed Leviathan. She took off outside and headed north back home.
Mara didn't bother going after them. Instead, she decided she would let Leviathan go. She was sick of him anyway. Instead, she decided to replace his memories of her abuse with a more motherly counterpart.
