Sevyn Imani Edwards

The cold wind blew against my cheek, jolting me awake. My eyes fought to stay open as i stood in the parking lot with the rest of the team, waiting for the bus. We were advised to get here at 6:15 the latest but it was now 6:38 and the bus wasn't even here yet. Geno was yelling about how the bus was late—but we all really wished he would shut up. It was way too early and i'm pretty sure none of us got home until really late last night.

Although, the girls didn't have the reaction i thought they would. Instead of complaining about their splitting headaches, they were all quiet. Most of them just wanting to sleep in a little longer.

I hear footsteps and see sophie standing next to me, pillow and blanket in hand. "you look like shit" she blurted out followed by a giggle.

"aw thanks..really appreciate it" i replied, sarcasm laced in my voice.

"you're so very welcome" she returned the same tone of voice and i rolled my eyes.

I took a deep breath, looking down at my feet that were hurting from standing so long. If i was moving around it wouldn't be so bad but i've been standing here for a good 15 minutes now. I looked back up, searching for any signs of the bus but groaned when all i saw was the streetlights still being on.

I saw paige walking back over to me and i was hoping she had somewhat good news.

"so?" i asked as she got closer.

"the bus should be here in 5" she responded, pulling my head into her chest. She's been my pillow since we got here and i was grateful. My head was pounding and i was freezing my ass off out here.

"oh, thank god! my legs were about to snap any second now" i closed my eyes as she ran her fingers through my hair. I could fall asleep from the comfort i received from her touch. The warmth radiating from her body made me forgot about the freezing morning winds of connecticut.

"i guess the rumors are true then"

I opened my eyes to see sophie smiling at paige and I. I looked up at paige, giving her a confused look before turning back to sophie. "what rumors?" i asked her.

"oh, you don't know? the whole internets going crazy over you two. ever since the creep who took those pictures of you guys at the aquarium got released, it's been nonstop talking about it everywhere. really good date choice by the way" sophie rambled on but i zoned her out and turned to paige who had a look of regret on her face. Almost as if she already knew what she was talking about. She avoided eye contact, looking down at her feet.

"did you know about this? why didn't you tell me?" i questioned, pulling back from her embrace. I felt myself suddenly get cold again.

"i didn't want you to worry. i wanted to keep this part of my life—the part that involved you in it—private. social media ruins things and i don't want it to ruin us" she explained.

It took me a while to process but i nodded, understanding her reasoning. Our relationship being in the limelight was something i was afraid of. Not because i didn't want people to know, but just like paige said, i knew how it could get. It would start to get overwhelming and i don't know if either of us could handle that.

"don't worry i won't say anything. my lips are sealed" sophie did the motion lock and throw away the key with her hands, smiling at us after.

"thank you, soph. but we're not together" i said.
