"I'm so glad you're on winter break. We can finally go out instead of you being stuck with your white girl and her homophobic ass coach"
I rolled my eyes and chuckled softly at my best friend's words. I used my shoulder to support my phone while moving swiftly around my apartment. I was doing a deep clean to help clear my head and i could've put him in speaker but it didn't make sense since i was moving around so much and i couldn't find my airpods, which was one reason i was deep cleaning at the moment.
"He's not homophobic, he just..doesn't like me. but aren't you visiting your family this year?" I asked, raising my eyebrow.
I heard him sigh deeply. "I was but then my grandad found out I was gay and told my grandma he doesn't want me around anymore"
"That sucks, I'm sorry Danny. Guess you're stuck with me then" I said with a shrug, now holding my phone to my ear as I walked out the bathroom.
"it really does suck! and i would know because i suck a lot of things! i mean i thought it was pretty obvious that i was gay" he rambled on the other line while i continued cleaning. Our phone calls were no different from our hangouts. Constant rambling from danny but i didn't mind. it was keeping my mind occupied from everything else going on in my head. I hummed in response to everything he was saying, trying to show that i was at least hearing him while my mind drifted off elsewhere.
I didn't mind spending my winter break with danny. At least i wouldn't be alone this year. Last year, he went on a ski trip with his family and didn't come back until a week after winter break ended. He called me and told me his drama of course, but i was still lonely for most of the time. I was hoping that i wouldn't be alone this year, preferably spending it with paige, but i knew she was a family woman and wouldn't be around in connecticut much—and we weren't even that close anymore. Not since the whole 'i need to figure myself out' situation.
I heard a knock on the door and furrowed my eyebrows, wondering who it could be. I usually don't have guests or invite people over so i was a little confused.
Danny was speaking but i cut him off, "i'm sorry babes, someone's at the door i'll call you later"
I hung up and walked over to the door, opening it and i'm not sure what i was expecting but i wasn't expecting paige to be standing there. I gave her confused smile while she just leaned against the doorway with her signature smirk. Her hair was in her signature low bun and she had on a dark blue nike tech tracksuit.
"uh, i don't remember inviting you over" I said with a nervous laugh.
"is it a bad time?" she asked, stepping closer to me.
"kinda..i was cleaning but you can come in" I moved aside so she could come in. I closed the door behind her and watched as she made herself comfortable on my couch. I sat next to her, waiting for some sort of explanation on why she just showed up.
"i uh..i found these in the media room" She said as she reached into her pocket and handed me my airpods.
My eyes widened and i quickly took them from her. "thank god, i thought i lost them!"
"yeah..i recognized the case and knew it was yours...but um, that's not the only reason i'm here" She mumbled the last part, her hands in the jacket of her hoodie as she averted my gaze to look down at her lap.
