Sevyn Imani Edwards

We were finally at the hotel after another half an hour of driving. It felt good to stretch and walk around a bit to loosen the muscles in my legs. The girls seemed to be having a blast as they were probably the loudest in here while they joked around with each other.

We waited in the lobby as geno collected our hotel keys at the front. There was 19 of us total—except the rest of the camera crew who was already on their way here. Sophie and i could've rode with them but we felt more comfortable going with the girls rather than a suv full of guys—who were way older than us. We were the only girls and the youngest on the team—us being the only college students.

I was standing near the windows, looking outside and taking in the hotel view. I don't remember the last time i stayed at a hotel—let alone a hotel this nice.

I felt two arms wrap around me and i jumped at little at the touch. I relaxed when i realized it was just paige. she's been hanging out with her teammates since she got off the bus and i honestly didn't mind since i spent most of the time with her. it was nice watching them be idiots and enjoy each other's company.

"aren't you afraid someone's gonna see us?" i question, recognizing the fact that we were technically in public.

"all i see is old white people" she shrugged as she rests her head on my shoulder. I laughed and placed my hand on top of hers that was rested around my waist. I leaned into her embrace, feeling the warmth and comfort that radiated off her body.

"are excited for your game tonight?" i turned my head to look down at her head that rested on my shoulder. She let out snort, followed by a smile. "i just hope we can play right after last night"

I was about to reply when i heard geno's voice. Paige let her arms fall from around my waist as we turned around, giving coach our full attention.

He held up the hotel room key cards in his hands. "i got the keys which leaves it up to you guys to pick your roommates, you're old enough to make the right decisions" coach shot me a glance as he finished his statement and i furrowed my eyebrows, confused on what he meant or why he looked at me.

"you wanna be my roommate?" paige asked, holding up the key cards to a room. I didn't even notice her leaving my side as i was too focused on the glare that coach gave me.

"um sure—" my response was cut short by geno once again, who was calling paige over. She let out a small sigh before walking over to him. His face was stern as he talked to her and it seemed to be important but i was still confused about the glances he's been giving me. I knew from the beginning that he didn't 100% enjoy me working with the team like he said he did. he just needed the position filled and i was there at the right time.

Paige started walking back toward me with a disappointed look on her face. I couldn't tell if she was upset or sad, her face was giving a mixture of both. "what's wrong?" i asked with my arms folded across my chest.

"Well, um...Geno said he doesn't want us rooming together" she said with a sigh, looking down at her feet. "He warned me specifically not to room with you, which is dumb but.."

"Why not? I thought we got to pick our roommates?" I questioned with furrowed brows. Now I'm really starting to think he doesn't like me.

"Yeah well, he said it's best that I room with one of the freshmen so I can keep them in check...and so that I don't get distracted" I heard defeat in her voice as she finished her sentence.

My lips pursed together, and I nodded. We ended up back on the distraction train. Not only did Paige think that a week ago but now her coach thought so as well. Maybe i am a distraction.
