Chapter 17: Criminal Minds

"Bang Chan...what the hell?!?"

      Sighing, the cop gestures to Bang Chan to turn around.

      "I'm taking you in, Bang Chan."

      "I'm really not pressing any charges!" I shout trying to get the cop to let it all go.

      "This cop doesn't seem to care..." Bang Chan tells me with a sad tone.

      I notice something on the ground and pick it up. It's a business card. Marjorie's business card.

      "Look! It was Marjorie!"

      I hand the cop the business card, and he reads it then purses his lips.

      "Bang Chan, Olivia, you're free to go..."

      "And you'll be arresting Marjorie, yes?"

      The cop looks at the ground as Olivia bounds out from the cop car.

      "That's police business, ma'am."

      "Of course, it is." Bang Chan says sarcastically.

      Bang Chan holds Olivia close as he rolls his eyes in disgust.

      "...Has nothing to do with the fact that she controls the whole damn town, does it?"

      "You're not going to do anything! That's illegal."

      "They make the laws in a town like Blue Haven, (Y/N), and we're just expected to take it."

      "We just need more proof is all. You understand."

      As the cop leaves, Janet wraps her arm around my shoulder.

      "What are you going to do?" Janet asks.

      "I've never seen (Y/N) mad before!" Olivia says.

      "Oh, I'm pissed. And I'm going to let Marjorie know about it!"

      The next day, I drive to Marjorie's B&B and walk right up to the door. I raise my hand high in a fist and bang it against the door. The door whips open. Marjorie glares at me, seemingly unsurprised.

      "This is quite the hour for you to show up at my place of business and residence, Miss (YLN)."

      "I know it was you who vandalized the library."

      Marjorie's shock is an act.

      "That's horrible! Have you called the police?"

      "For some reason I don't think they'll be much help."

      "That's quite an outlandish claim!"

      "I found your business card right in front of the library. Looks like you dropped it making your getaway. You should be careful next time."

      Marjorie rolls her eyes in a huff.

      "I could have dropped that any of the times I've come to the library. Stop taking your frustration with Mr. Bang out on me."

      "You don't know anything about Christopher and I."

      "I know he accepted the deal. He called an hour ago."

      My heart drops to the pit of my stomach.

      "Bang Chan would never side with you."

      "He finally saw sense and realized you were dragging him down with you. He agreed to vote with us on the ordinance next week. How does it feel knowing that the man you seduced has escaped your clutches? I knew he'd come around eventually. Mr. Bang is a good man, of course he couldn't support sex books in the library."
