If You Love Her

Prologue

Kate Whistler prided herself on always having a plan. But when her brother Noah was killed in an ambush in Iraq, her plans changed. Finishing college, she fought her way to where she was now. An agent for the DIA that worked with NCIS. She protected the intel, that's what she was good at.

Once more her plan was changed when she met Lucy Tara, a junior special agent for NCIS. However, their first meeting wasn't at work. In fact, it was while Kate was in Hawaii for a meeting. She'd gone to a local bar and ran into the gorgeous brunette. They'd spent two nights and three days together, and it was the happiest Kate had been since Noah died.

After that, Kate couldn't stop thinking about Lucy. In fact she jumped at the chance to work in Hawaii, praying to run into the brunette again. Until she did... at work.

For months they were on and off, until they were on again. Kate was happy, she loved being around Lucy, she could see a life with her. But everything changed when Cara showed up... Cara, her ex-girlfriend from DC. Cara had told Lucy she was still Kate's girlfriend.

Fast forward to that night, Lucy went undercover and almost died. Kate had never felt as sick to her stomach as she had the day she found out about Noah. Not until Lucy. When Kate tried to talk to Lucy, to explain, she was shut down. Her heart was ripped out of her chest and thrown into a shredder of some sort.

Now, Kate spent her nights alone and her days around the woman who she could no longer have. It was getting harder and harder to be around Lucy. But what hurt the most, what felt like a double edged sword piercing her in the heart, was finding out the brunette was moving on. Moving on with some girl named Skylar... Not even a month after their break-up. Now she had a decision to make and it was a big one.

"Whistler, we're in the war room." Jesse's voice broke Kate out of her thoughts.

Kate swallowed thickly and nodded her head, making her way up to the war room. She fought every nerve in her body to keep from looking at the junior special agent.

"Glad you could join us, Whistler." Jane Tennant said, glancing over at the tall blonde.

Clearing her throat, Kate nodded her head. "Of course, I brought you what I could." She said, passing the file in her hands to Jane.

"Thank you." Jane said, opening the file and beginning to read through it.

Shifting slightly, Kate looks around the room, avoiding looking at Lucy. When her phone rings, she looks at the caller ID, excusing herself. "ASAC Curtis, I didn't expect you to be calling me so soon."

"Whistler, we have a case and it's urgent." ASAC Curtis said immediately.

Kate swallowed thickly and glanced into the war room, she could see the entire team watching her. "I'll be there as soon as I can." She said, ending the call. Making her way into the war room, Kate took a deep breath. "Special Agent Tennant, I have to go. I will send another intelligence officer to help with your case." She said quickly.

Lucy rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest. "Let me guess, another surprise guest?" She asked, her voice filled with venom.

"Actually no, I'm needed by the FBI." Kate said calmly, not looking at Lucy. "I have to go."

With that, Kate was gone.

Walking into the FBI field office, Kate took a deep breath and made her way over to ASAC Curtis' office. Knocking on the door, she waited to hear Curtis invite her in.

"Come in." Curtis' voice called through the door.

Kate opened the door and made her way into the room, stopping in front of his desk. "You said it was urgent, what's going on?"
