It had been a month since Kate and Lucy broke up. The blonde was still off work to heal, but she'd been talking to mainly Jane who came by sometimes to hang out.

Tonight was different though, instead of opening the door to see Jane, she found Kai. "Hey, I didn't know you were coming over." Kate whispered softly.

Kai offered her a smile. "I wanted to surprise you." He said with a shrug.

The blonde smiled softly and stepped back to let him in. "Well it worked."

"How are you?" Kai asked softly, stepping into the apartment.

Shrugging, Kate shut the door behind him and made her way over to the couch. "I'm fine, still waiting for the all clear to return to work. They have me doing physical therapy for the next month."

"Are you sure you're okay?" Kai asked, moving to sit down. "Lucy doesn't seem okay, she's pretty quiet, keeps to herself."

Kate looked down at her hands and swallowed thickly. "I'm... I'm not okay." She admitted quietly.

Kai shifted closer to Kate on the couch and took her hand, squeezing it comfortingly. "Talk to me."

Kate stared at their hands for a moment. "After we broke up, I started wishing I had died that night. That you guys didn't find me in time." She whispered. "I called Jane when the nightmares started again, and on the nights the kids were with Dan, she stayed with me."

"Oh Kate." Kai said softly. He let go of her hand and pulled her into a gentle hug.

The blonde instantly curled into him, burying her face in his chest.

Kai held her close, rocking them gently as he kissed her head.

After a few minutes, Kate pulled back and cleared her throat. "I was just about to order dinner." She said softly.

"Okay." Kai said, nodding his head. "I could go out and pick something up, bring it back."

"You'd do that?" Kate asked softly, looking into his eyes.

Kai nodded. He gave her a charming smile. "Yeah."

Biting her lip, Kate glanced down at his mouth before looking back at his eyes.

"What would you like?" Kai asked, pulling his car keys from his pocket.

"Your dad has a restaurant right? Bring me something from there." Kate said softly, leaning back on the couch.

"Sure, I can do that. Anything in particular you'd like?" Kai asked. "Any allergies so I know what to avoid?"

Kate shook her head. "No allergies, just nothing with pineapple." She said softly.

"Not a fan of pineapple?" Kai asked with wide eyes. "What's wrong with pineapple?"

Shrugging, the blonde looked away, feeling slightly embarrassed. "It's good, don't get me wrong. It's just, it reminds me of Noah, he hated them." She admitted quietly.

"Oh." Kai said in a soft voice. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you."

Kate shook her head and looked up at him. "You didn't upset me."

Kai nodded his head slowly. "I'll go get some food and I'll be back." He smiled at her and headed for the door.

"Okay." Kate said softly, shifting on the couch to wait for him.

Kai was gone for nearly half an hour and that gave Kate some time to tidy the apartment a little bit.

The blonde had just finished in the kitchen when the door opened. She made her way back to the couch and sat down, turning on the tv just as he turned after closing the door.
