Nine months later

"What do you mean you still haven't set a date yet?" Jesse asked, looking at Kate as he sipped his coffee.

Kate shrugged her shoulders and looked down at the report in her hands. "We haven't set a date." She mumbled.

"Is there a reason?" Jesse asked, he didn't understand it. Kate and Lucy seemed so happy to be engaged.

The blonde sighed softly and looked up at Jesse. "I don't know, I've tried talking to her about setting a date and she just changes the subject."

Jesse frowned. "Do you want me to talk to her? Or maybe get Jane to talk to her."

Shaking her head, Kate forced a smile. "It's fine, Jesse." She said quietly.

"It's not fine." Jesse said. "She keeps putting it off and it's hurting you."

Kate closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "I said it's fine." She said calmly before standing up and leaving the bullpen. She bumped into Lucy who was coming out of the elevator with cups of coffee in her hands. Kate accidentally knocked them out of Lucy's hands, spilling them all down Lucy's front.

"Shit." Lucy hissed as the warm liquid seeped through her shirt and burned her skin.

"Oh god, Luce, I'm so sorry." Kate breathed out, moving back into the bullpen to grab Lucy's go bag before moving back to her fiancé and grabbing her hand. "I wasn't looking."

Lucy was pulling her shirt away from her skin, trying to ease the pain from the warm liquid. "No, it's okay." She said, trying to sound calm but her voice betrayed her and wavered.

Shutting the door to the bathroom, Kate quickly turned the lock before spinning around to help Lucy remove her shirt. "It's not okay, I burned you."

"You didn't mean to." Lucy said, looking down at the scalded skin on her body.

Moving over to the sink, Kate grabbed some paper towels and got them slightly damp with cool water. "Jesse was asking me why we haven't set a date." She said quietly, moving to run the cool paper towels over Lucy's heated skin.

Lucy winced and tried to pull away from the paper towels, closing her eyes.

Kate didn't look up as she continued gently running the paper towel along Lucy's skin.

"I'm sorry." Lucy murmured, tears slipped out of her closed eyes. "I didn't want to screw us up." She tried to move away from Kate's touch.

"Screw us up?" Kate asked in confusion, gripping Lucy's hips and finally looking up to meet the brunette's eyes.

"I didn't want to... I was scared I'd embarrass myself and you by screwing up my vows." Lucy let out a sob. "I'm not good at public speaking." She winced again.

Reaching up, Kate gently caressed Lucy's cheek. "Hey, I don't care about vows, I just want to marry you."

Lucy said nothing as she tried to pull away from Kate's hand, it really hurt.

Swallowing thickly, Kate went back to running the cool paper towels over Lucy's skin. "Maybe you should go home and take a lukewarm bath."

"I want to marry you too." Lucy whispered, tears running down her cheeks. "I was just... I thought you'd want the big white wedding in front of everyone we know." She breathed, trying not to pull away.

Kate looked up at Lucy and smiled weakly. "I was thinking more about getting married in Jane's backyard, with the team. You guys are my family now."

"Really?" Lucy breathed, blinking at Kate.
