part 29 Trying to work out a plan

The tape finally ended.
This didn't make sense to Tom "what the fuck!? Why was it just for me? It didn't mention you two at all" Oswin looked a little freaked out "he is listening to us all the time, maybe even now" Tom shook his head "how? We got new radios. He couldn't of tapped them" "if he has a radio tower then he can pretty much tap into any radio he wants. This is terrible, we need to go to camp Northgate" "why? What's over there?" asked Delilah "that is hopefully where we will find an axe, but I don't know how to get in there" Delilah was looking into the cave, "we also need that axe to get into this cave, there has got to be something in here" Tom looked at the gate "no, an axe won't get through this gate it's way too thick. We are going to need a key and I bet whoever is doing this has the key, I knew all of this was connected somehow" "yeah, I had a strange feeling everything was connected" said Oswin looking worried "you know sometimes it sucks to be right, we need to figure out who is doing this and why" Tom thought for a moment "maybe it's a ranger, maybe it's a firefighter, maybe a member of the forest service, or maybe it's just a member of the public" Delilah nodded "it really narrows it down doesn't it, we are truly fucked here" Tom nodded "kind of" Oswin shook her head sitting on an old log "I don't think rangers, firefighters, or the forest service would do this, I mean they have good jobs, they wouldn't give all that up to do this shit also they have better things to do they don't have time to do this shit, I mean people can go mad out here but not like this" she placed her hand on her chin thinking "it might be some crazy guy who just came out here because they're running from the law, they've clearly done bad things. I can get a list of people who have come in here in the past 5 years. After 5 years the forest service tells them to leave, so they couldn't have been here for longer than that" Delilah said "unless they didn't sign to come in here, They might have sneaked in, so they could stay here forever" Tom nodded "yeah, let's continue this back at the tower, we could be getting watching right now without knowing" Oswin said "don't say things like that" they all laughed for the first time in a long time which did feel pretty good, having no idea that Tom was in fact correct someone was watching them from the trees observing their every move but it wasn't the man watching them.
When the day was 126.
They started trying to plan how to get to camp Northgate. Oswin was in their tower explaining while pacing up and down tapping her pen against her hand "the problem is the bridge to get into camp Northgate was burned down like 6 or 7 years ago, and it wasn't really used, that was the only way in" Tom was looking at the map "okay, do you think we can climb up the rocks and a bit of a mountain then jump down a bit" Oswin thought for a moment "maybe, good idea, but it will be difficult normally" "what's not normal?" asked Delilah "well the Delilah fire is huge it covers up like half the forest, and it's literally 2 percent contained by fighters, and it's getting more out of control by the day. We will have to be careful about this because it's right next to the camp, it's also next to the site, so we need to get in the site before it burns to the ground and its secrets are lost forever, and everything they put out a part of the fire it seems to start a fire twice the size. It's moving through the trees and getting bigger and bigger by the day" Tom shook his head "yeah, and to think that fire was set by a little lightening bolt" "that's the thing that I find strange, there was lightening around that area that night however the lightening was at a different area, it was nowhere near where the fire started" "do you think it was set by a person?" "I don't really know why they would do that though" "because they're crazy, do you need a better reason?" "Well yeah, but we need evidence or an actual motive for all of this it can't just be word of mouth" "well let's go and get some evidence"
They suddenly heard sounds.
They looked out the window to see 6 military helicopters flying towards the site. Oswin frowned "who the hell are they?" Tom went to her side "I don't know that's a little strange" "yeah, the forest service calls me to tell me about the flight paths of a stray kite so they definitely would have told me about a giant parade of helicopters flying to the site, and they would've told me about the site, but they didn't" Delilah said "they might just be trying to deal with the fire it is like 2 percent controlled maybe they are bringing in military action" "maybe they've done it before, but there is one small problem with that" "what's that?" "Well the fire is over there" she pointed "and they are over there, they're going in the site... for some reason, and they aren't fire helicopters because the fire ones are red those are black, and I've been in one when they evacuated me once, when they thought the volcano under the ground was going explode and destroy all this land" Delilah frowned "what did you just say?" "Well they got me out because they thought the volcano would explode" "So it's almost exploded before?" "Yes" "how many times?" "I wouldn't worry about it?" "Why?" Oswin sighed "17, 17 times" "you've been evacuated 17 times" "yep" "that's almost one a year" "yeah I have only ever done 2 years all the way through here without getting evacuated" "Jesus" Oswin turned to Tom "okay well it's 10 in the morning now, do you want to go down to the gate and try to open it again?" Tom looked up "yeah, sure" Delilah said "yeah, I'm going to stay here and get some sleep. I'm so tired" "alright, but if anything happens you call me alright" "yeah I will. Don't worry I'll be fine" she laid down and went to sleep, Tom and Oswin set off towards the site, talking as they went.
They arrived at the site fence.
They weren't at the gate, so they had to walk around it to get there, Oswin was looking into the trees inside the site "wait what is that?" Tom turned "what?" Oswin pushed Tom down quickly "get down, get down!" he looked around "what?" "Look" she pointed through the trees was what looked like a research building, but it was covered by the trees, Oswin tried to move to see it but still couldn't see more than a little of it "it looks like one of those buildings that you can move around like a portable research lab, they could be watching us right now, this is extreme, we need to get in there" they walked to the gate but still couldn't get it open "what ever is in there wants to stay hidden?" "I wonder why and why is everyone being so secretive about this like it doesn't exist"
Oswin suddenly yelled.
"What the fuck was that?!" Tom looked to where she was looking "what?" "Didn't you see that?" "No, I didn't see anything, I wasn't looking" she turned her head to the side trying to see into the trees "maybe... maybe it was just my... there look" Tom looked into the trees to see someone walking between the trees, she was wearing black clothes and a white lab coat, she was walking in the direction of the building, they then noticed the helicopters landing near that area when they left, they took the round building with them under the helicopters. Oswin looked a little annoyed "I bet all the research and everything was in there... we need to get in there" Tom said "wait look way in the distance, is that a tent? there is still stuff in there" he attempted to hit the gate down but nothing was working. They decided to leave and get the axe the next day. They started walking, Oswin said "its so creepy out here now, it's like someone is always watching us, and it's creepy to me, it's the first time in 20 years I've felt scared all the time, it's like someone is in my forest and I want them out" Tom nodded "I can understand that, I mean you've put a lot of work into this place, right?" she nodded "yeah, of course, I mean after 20 years I think I've made a dent in the land, I remember when they moved me into the tower I'm in now, before I had to be with this creepy guy, but he left, and they moved me to my own tower" "that's pretty good, it's like your own space" "yeah, it's nice. Now, I don't want to feel scared any more, so I know what we need" "what's that?" "Well the axe" "yeah" they arrived back at the tower. Delilah woke up when they entered "Jesus Christ you scared the shit out of me" Tom and Oswin sat down "so did you get it open?" "No, but we saw scientists, and they took some building away" said Oswin eating a Snickers bar "great, so there is no point in going in the site now" "no, there is a kind of tent that I want to see, they seem to know we are on to them, so they have run away, but we will still get into the site, first we need to go to camp Northgate which we will do tomorrow because we really need that axe for defence against what's out there"
