part 05 Delilah

Just as the 2000s came around.
The scientists found out she was pregnant they immediately put her on paid medical leave because they didn't want her around the dangerous chemicals and that seemed fair to her. However, she still got files sent to her and research documents. They went to do the first scan and found out they were getting what they wanted which was a little girl. They began thinking of names for her, it took a while because they wanted to make 100 percent sure that they didn't come up with a name that could be made fun of because if it were, it would be on them. Finally, they arrived at the beautiful name of Delilah for a beautiful young girl. That was the name of Anita's mom who died a few years before she met Tom, but strangely enough it was Tom's idea, apparently he loved the name. Not long after they had the name and had built her a bedroom, Anita went into her long and horrible 22-hour-long labour. Finally, on the 17th of September 2000, Anita had given birth to Delilah Amoura Carter. Tom said "she was a beautiful little girl" They loved her right from the start and started trying to be the most amazing parents from the moment she was born like any mom and dad should.
When Delilah turned 2 years old.
They started noticing she was able to write incredibly well, her hand-writing was somehow better than Tom and Anita's which didn't make sense to them. They also noticed it was like she got her looks and hobbies from Anita but her personality and humour was from Tom, and in their mind she was the best of both worlds which was what they wanted. Anita showed Tom a picture of her when she was a child and Delilah looked exactly like her even down to the hair length and styling. She really loved to draw and write, so she would write small stories and draw pictures of her characters like a comic strip. Delilah was a little sad because Anita always had to go to work so couldn't hang out with Delilah as much as she would like however that was okay because Tom was always there for her. Anita's science group finally allowed her to go from animal testing trails to Zurm testing trials which she had been scared of doing for years, she said she wouldn't ever test any bad strains she would only do good strains and had to make sure it was perfect. Because her work was so important she sometimes had to sleep at the lab and that made Delilah very sad not being able to see her mum, luckily Tom was there to be the best stay at home dad, because of this Delilah always seemed to like Tom more than Anita, she always seemed to laugh at Tom's jokes and no one laughed at his jokes not even Anita. She also loved to listen to his stories of when he was in the great Zarlum army and fought in a war, however he had to edit them down a little because the memories bought him nightmares, so he decided to not tell Delilah the full stories to keep her dreams happy and fun, he also told her stories from when he was in school and all the insane things he did like when a friend of his fell out the window, it's a long story, he also told her about when he would skip school to have a drink and when the teacher one joined him and no one thought anything about it.
When the year was 2006.
Delilah was completely terrified because she was going to be starting her first day of school. She had already done reception, and she was now starting in year 1. However, she was happy because Anita was able to be there to see her off. When they arrived at the school Delilah's hands seemed glued to Tom and Anita's hands. Tom leaned down to her height, she was a little white and shaking, keeping close to Tom like she was trying to hide from everyone. Tom hugged her to comfort her "hey, are you okay my little monkey?" she nodded with her hands to her face biting her sleeves which she did a lot when she was worried destroying a lot of her jumpers "yeah" Tom moved her shoulder-length black hair out of her hazel eyes "then remember this; every adventure has to start and at this school you'll have a story, all of us do so you should make it a good one for your old man, and for yourself, then you can say you did it, and did it well" "what if some of the stuff they try to make me do is too hard?" "Well all you have to do is remember why you started then you'll be better than ever, trust me I know you'll do well and you need to trust yourself, believe me you can do this" she hugged him and Anita then ran off still a little scared but more eager. Tom stood up smiling, Anita smiled holding his hand "well done, you're an amazing father" "well duh"
They laughed walking home.
They helped her with bullies and many other things like homework and friends. One of the teachers was being very angry with her all the time because she couldn't do what he wanted, what they didn't realize at the time was she had deuteranopia which basically meant she couldn't see the colour green, she saw it as yellow, and naturally all the shapes he wanted her to tell apart were yellow and green which she saw the same, and she tried to explain that however he just wouldn't listen. He would also explain a task, she would not understand and ask him to repeat, and he would say she was not listening not understanding that she just didn't understand the task. Tom and Anita discovered Delilah crying, so Tom went in and had 'a word' with him. The next day, he was a lot nicer to her strangely enough. When they were walking home, Delilah was holding hands with Tom and Anita she asked "what did you do to him dad?" "Well I did what I did when I was in the army, I reasoned with him" "You didn't hurt him right?" asked Anita as he smiled "err no, well not physically anyway" they all laughed. A few weeks later they were able to test her for deuteranopia, when they worked out she had it they gave her some glasses to help her see green how she was meant to. As Delilah went through school, they began to notice she didn't have any friends at all she claimed she didn't really need any friends and no one in the school liked her anyway, so her friends were Tom and Anita, but that made them really sad because they weren't in the school so did she just hang out on her own all day?
When the year was 2007.
Delilah was now 7 years old, she was doing extremely well in her school with the help of Tom and Anita, she was really enjoying herself. One day Anita came into the living room explaining "I got offered a job to advance the research 2000 miles away" it was a job that would extremely help her nuclear research and helping to make her huge cure, but they didn't want it to go wrong, because if they do it wrong then there was a massive chance that the world would come to an end, but of course they were going to attempt to not get it wrong. It would take a long time and many tests. Apparently they had an island out there which would be going through people and animal testing but only when they had viable strains of the virus. The problem was, Delilah and Anita didn't want to move 2000 miles from a place they loved, their house was perfect, and the school was awesome. Tom thought it was the perfect place to raise their daughter. Anita understood that and decided she would fly back to see them whenever she could and Tom became a single parent which he was a little scared of at first but after literally the first day he knew he was going to be able to do it, and he managed it extremely well. Delilah saw him as her hero in every way, he saw her as something to finally live for without having to think about the war every day. Every morning when he woke up, it was like he couldn't wait to see the smiling face of his daughter, and he liked watching shows with her laughing, what was even better was they both had the same favourite foods, so they had mainly the same things every night. Life was good, Tom tried to make Delilah's life as fun as possible and give her all the chances he couldn't get when he was a child. They walked around the lake with Mayhem, Delilah and the dog loved playing in the water together almost every day after school. They also went to the beach, they went to zoos, they went to theme and water parks, cinemas and many fun places. Tom and Delilah went to those places once a week. Furthermore, they watched TV together, played video games, they sat together doing her school work, or doing work with random writing and art projects which they loved to do, Delilah had a huge imagination which she loved to use and didn't think she could live without, Tom was incredibly proud of her and believed she could be an amazing comic writer in the future. That was also the year a certain important girl was born, but we'll go over that in time, she can't make this book all about herself like she likes to make everything else about herself, her time is coming.
