part 39 Getting the gun

Oswin grabbed her bag.
Tom said “then we have to go” she shook her head gesturing for him to sit back down “no, you need to stay here and protect Delilah, she is exhausted and if Mark comes here she won't be able to fight him at all, she can barely move. You need to protect her with everything you have, and if Delilah's pain level shoots to 100 you need to be here to help her, we are not leaving her alone again” Tom nodded “yeah, I can understand that, but be careful and don't get hurt he is still out there somewhere” Oswin nodded “I'll be fine, I'll bring the axe that will give me some protection at least” as she was talking she picked up the axe “if Mark comes by show him a piece of your mind, and kill that fucker with a knife if you have to” he nodded “of course” she turned around leaving. She went all the way to the care package drop off point, she opened it with the stupidly easy code of 1-2-3-4, she lifted the door up then looked through it seeing a box, she took it out “hell yes” she opened it and there was more than enough medicine for Delilah. She went back and gave it to her then, Tom and Oswin went to sleep still worried about her because her pain could get a lot worse as time went on.
When it was day 142.
Oswin woke up first and checked on Delilah, she was still asleep, she had been worried in the night if Delilah had internal bleeding, but then she thought if she did then Delilah would be dead by now. She went to Tom "hey Tom, are you sure you want me to get you a gun? Because I can get one, only I know where it is, but you have to be sure about this" he nodded "Delilah, told me to kill him, he made her not able to walk and raped her. That man is dead just not yet, I am going to kill him" "okay, but I am going to be there. You can't do it alone" "it will be extremely dangerous" "danger doesn't matter to me, I want revenge just as much as you do" "yes it does, he is insane" "we do it together, or not at all, I don't want you to leave to kill Mark and then never come back, I won't forgive myself for that and Delilah wouldn't forgive me either, I am going no questions asked" he thought for a moment "okay, you can come, but please be careful" "okay, I'll go get the gun, and you look after Delilah, we're going to end this" Tom said "yeah and fast because the forest service is coming. We need to stop him before they get here" "yeah, I agree" she grabbed the axe and bag going out. Tom radioed "be careful out there Oswin, he's out there somewhere, please be careful" "if I see him, I'll just run, or take a swing at him with the axe" "good, but I don't think you have to run" "why? If I see that fucker I'm booking it faster than a fucking book wagon" "but he's hurt, and he's moving slowly. He had a knife in his knee" "yeah, but he also has a gun he could shoot me without even thinking" "yeah... by the way what the fuck is a book wagon?" "Well it's a wagon with books on it, they have them in prisons and stuff" "that's a cart" "okay a book cart then" they both laughed for the first time in a long while.
Suddenly the phone rang.
Tom said ''I'll radio back in a second'' he picked up the phone ''this is Tom'' he thought it was the forest service with information “hello there I heard you over the radio. Sorry, I can't pop to Oswin and give her a little hello. I mean if I hurt her she deserves it for my fucking leg! I know where she's going to get a gun. Unfortunately I can't go to her however because I am extremely busy” “doing what you sick fuck?” “Hey no need to be naughty, well remember Echo and Lily Stevens, I'm going to pay them a little visit” “why? What for?” “Well because I kidnapped them a ransom, however they escaped and told the police and the police put them in a safe house with a guard outside at all times. After a little shall we say research, I finally ended up standing right outside it with an axe and a gun turns out these safe houses are not as safe as it says on the brochure” Tom sounded worry “listen don't kill them” “but, they know stuff they shouldn't. The police won't ever know it was me, listen mate it's these 2 girls or Delilah” Tom said “listen the police might say that your wife and child were an accident. If you kill them then that won't be an accident, and the police will know it was you” “how? There is no evidence” “well apart from this recorded phone call of course” “well it doesn't matter, because soon you're going to kill me, I'm just trying to help you have more reasons to do it” Tom sarcastically said “Oh yeah, like I need more reasons, you caused my daughter to never be able to fucking walk again you sick fuck, I am going to rip you apart” "I know you might be angry and that's good, because you're coming like me, become death... become me. Come on, I want you to kill me because then you would've become me” Tom shook his head "you realize killing you won't change me at all, I've killed many people, and it was never personal killing you will not turn me into you, it just won't" "then why don't you prove it" before Tom could reply, Mark hung up on him. Tom put the phone down "bastard"
Tom quickly radioed Oswin.
“Oswin, listen he's going to kill Echo and Lily, and there isn't a lot we can do to stop him, we don't even know where they are by the time we call the police he would already have done it” Oswin quickly replied “oh my God!” “Yeah, he wants me to become like him by me killing him” “I swear that is not going to happen, you know why because he's alone when he went insane he was alone we are not, we can use that to fight against him and kill him” Tom said “I won't go insane, he killed his daughter and I have never ever had a thought of even hurting Delilah, let alone killing her!” “Good, because she's special, and you have done an incredible job growing her up you can't lose her the same way Mark did” “yeah, and I'm proud of her, I always have been, even more now because she has been so strong throughout all of this and when we get out of here I am going to support her as much as possible” they started talking to each other as she went towards the mountains.
About an hour later.
Oswin came to a rock on the edge of the mountain. She looked around to see if anyone was watching then pushed the rock to the side, behind it was a tiny cave entrance barely big enough for her to fit through, but she managed it. She walked through the small tunnel for a long time. When she arrived at a bigger point in the cave, she turned she couldn't even see the entrance any more because it was so far away. She turned around again on the ground was a revolver and a box of bullets. She radioed Tom “okay, I've got it” “where do you keep it?” asked Tom “it's behind a rock on a mountain. Only I know about it, not even the forest service knows about it. I keep it for like emergences like this and thank God because if not we would be fucked" Tom replied “okay, good get back here quickly” she ran back, Tom said “oh my God to think Echo and Lily are probably dead right now, that's fucked up!” “We can't stop it. We don't even know where they are” “I sent the recording to the police, so they know about him now however I think I was too late to save them” she came back to the tower, and they started planning how and when to do it because they didn't know where he was.
When it was day 143.
Tom woke up first, he checked on Delilah she was still asleep, Tom had to wake her up and feed her some food, they then had to go to the bathroom, it still took the same amount of time, but it wasn't as painful because Oswin could now give her enough medicine to stop the pain. She then went back to sleep in some pain but not very much. Tom and Oswin were looking at plans. Every 5 minutes or so, they heard a plane or helicopter fly over as they, talked and drank Oswin said “according to the forest service 81 percent of the forest is on fire, no people are here at all apart from us, no animals are here apart from the ones that couldn't be taken away. They predict they will be able to get the fire out 3 months after we leave, then they say we can come back” Delilah was still awake. Her voice was weak like it was difficult for her to speak “no offence, but even if I wasn't going to university I wouldn't ever come back to this place” Oswin nodded “I can see why” “I've had enough memories here” Tom said “well, I need something to do while you're in university” Oswin nodded “if it makes you feel any better, I'm coming back out, and they are moving me into this tower with you, because my tower kind of fell off a cliff, so if you want to take the bottom tower then that's fine with me” Tom smiled “if it's okay with you, I’d love to come back with you” she went slightly red “thanks, at least I'll have someone I like in the same tower Delilah smiled at Tom and winked, he smiled back at her as she drifted back to sleep because it was kind of the only thing she could do in her horrible state.
