I walk inside a black singular door with the words LACUNA INC plastered on it. "Good morning. Lacuna." A woman said as I walked inside. "No, I'm sorry. That offer expired after the new year." I made my way to the front desk and saw the receptionist lady hold the phone with her shoulder as she plastered stickers on very same yellow envelopes my parents got.
"Yeah, sure. We can fit you in.. How about on the fifth?" She asked while filling something out. I waited anxiously as the conversation came to an end, "That's a Wednesday. All right, great. Could you spell that, please?"
To the left of the desk there was a printer that was always printing out yellow slips of paper with a persons name and same message of memory erasing.. I watched as a pit formed in my stomach. "Okay, and we'll need a daytime phone number.. Great have a nice day. See you then." The woman hung up and put the phone down, she then looked up at me with kind eyes, "May I help you?"
I look down at her with slip in hand, "I'm Y/N, L/N." She stared up at me with a weird look on her face, "Excuse me?" I repeated myself but with more clarification, "I'm Y/N, L/N. I have an appointment with Dr.." I trailed off. The woman finished my sentence for me, "Mierzwiak." I nodded as she handed me a paper attached to a clipboard. "Here. Could you please fill this out?"
I shook my head, "I just want to talk to him." I looked down at the clipboard and cringed. "You still need to fill the form out, ma'am." I tilted my head and looked her in the eyes, "Really?" She nodded and said thank you as she returned to her phone answering duties.
I was about to sit down when I realized I didn't have a pen, "I don't have a pen?" The woman pointed to a little coffee desk, "There's a pen right there." She smiled as she picked up the phone. "Good morning. Lacuna."
I sat down and filled out the paper, hoping this was just some sort of prank. Alex has always been a jokester, that's what I liked about him. He could always make light of a bad situation and he was always able to make me smile, I hope this one of those cases.
About 20 minutes later I heard my last name be called, it was the woman from before. She led me to the back of the office, "How are we today?" I followed her, what a odd thing to ask when you're in a clinic of this nature. "Not too good, actually." I answer.
"Boo!" Someone shouted from around the corner.
"Oh, my God! Stan!" The office woman yelped. "Sorry. Sorry I was just.." Stan tried to apologize with a smile as the woman smacked him with a file packet, "I'm working!"
We made it into the Doctor's office and she handed him the yellow slip of paper I came in with and I sat down on the opposing chair from him. "Here, Doctor." She said as he looked at the slip. "Thank you." He said, and he gave one look at it and let out a sigh.
"You should not have seen this. I apologize." His tone was very serious, and the pit in my stomach grew deeper but Alex wouldn't do this. I leaned forward in the chair and made eye contact with the Doctor, "This is a hoax, right? I mean, this is Alex.."
He shook his head and let go of the little paper, "I assure you, no." The woman was still in the room and she interjected after the Doctor, "No." She looked around for approval and then left the room, not before giving one last smile to the doctor.
"Mm-mm. There's no such thing as this." I try to reason, still hoping that it wasn't true.
"Look, our files are confidential, ma'am. Suffice it to say that Mr, uh.. Mr Maldonado was not happy," He clicked his tounge. "And he wanted to move on. We provide that possibility"

"Mr Maldonado was not happy, and he wanted to move on. We provide that possibility" I said, sitting on the kitchen counter. "What the hell is that?" I hopped up from the counter, "Nicest girl he ever went out with." I looked by the kitchen window when I heard my dad let out a loud curse, I whipped my head to the back.
My mom rolled her eyes, "Rob! Give it a rest!" I sigh, still gazing out the window, "It's okay. It's all right."
"Carrie, I am making a birdhouse." My dad said across from the kitchen in a little makeshift tool room in a monotone voice as my mom opened the fridge. I sat down at the kitchen table as she began to collect plates and dishes, "What can I say, sweetie? You know Alex. He's like that. He's impulsive."
As she reached for the last dish she looked at me, "He decided to erase you almost as a lark." I looked down at the table and repeated quietly under my breath, "A lark."

I began slamming on my steering wheel out of pure frustration and anger, still crying. "Why, why, why would you do that!?"
