“Is your knee still aching, Principessa?” I glance at Evelyn's left knee, a pink band aid with doodles covering her bruise.

“A little but I feel better now.” My niece answers in her soft voice, I smile at her, creasing her cheek, I utter, “My brave baby.”

Hearing my praise she does smile a little but her true smile is missing. My chest gets tightened as the images of her falling down miserably tries to break into my imagination.

I kiss her forehead and rub off her dry tears, “I'll let you rest, okay?” I speak to her again and crease her beautiful hair before getting up from her bed.

“Bye, Zio.” She waves and so do I, “Goodbye, Eve.”

As I take steps to walk out of her room, I find her mother standing by the door, waiting for me. “It's a minor injury, Zor. She'll recover soon.” Mehr tries to assure me and some part of herself too.

Her hand is on my arm as we exit the door of Evelyn's room. “Come on, have lunch.” She offers which I'm going to decline but before I can do that she adds, “I'll not be fooled that you'll eat later.”

She looks deep into my eyes and I don't wish to argue with my sister-in-law at the moment, “Fine.” I say and she smiles at me.

Ditching the dinning table, we are sitting on one of the gaint sofas in our hall downstairs, eating Ragi Roti with Matar Mushroom, It's just Mehr & me as Rish & Dad are already done with their meal.

I chew another bite while Mehr opens her mouth to talk, “I think you had a good time last night.”

I raise my brows at her remark, “Your LBS batch reunion, Zor.” She clarifies erasing my confusion, “It was okay.”

“Small talks with a few ex batchmates doesn't count as a good time in my dictionary.” I state and then feed myself another bite of roti.

Her stare on my eyes is questioning, Did Adira tell her something? “May I know what's making you think otherwise?” I ask her and the next second she's using her phone.

What the actual hell!?

“See, it's giving more than what you're saying, Zori.” She brings her phone close to my face to show me Adira's Instagram story about last night.

It's a picture of us with Jay and I'll be lying if I say her caption didn't surprise me.
