LESS SLEEP DEPRIVED and drained, Adelaide Deane sat down at a table at the very back of a tavern in the Witch Corner.

Inspector Barnes regarded her as she sipped her tea. "Now, I'd like a full explanation of what happened."

"Promise not to freak out."

"Promise."

"I tore open the Veil," Alice quipped, taking a bite of her muffin.

Barnes' eyes looked like they would pop out of his head, "What the actual fu-"

"No freak out!" Alice reminded.

Barnes huffed, screwing his eyes shut for a moment and drinking some tea. "What the actual fuck?" he repeated, quieter and more civilly.

"I closed it right after," she assured.

"How wonderful," he frowned. "I need a full recount please."

"Basically, Bone Glass crash course," she sang, "Lucy forced the Skull - which is a ghost jar of a witch we have - to look into the mirror. George knocked over the Bone Glass, it cracked. Joplin ran to it, looked inside and got zapped and blew up, releasing the Seven. I banished the Seven. Then Bickerstaff decided to rise, the unsensitive bastard. Anthony then arrived and threw some salt bombs and his rapier at him. And I used my mother's hand mirror to rip open the Veil, shove Bickerstaff inside and then you'll never guess what happened."

"What?"

"My mother walked out of the Veil."

Barnes stared.

"Gimme a moment, I'm not listening to this sober."

He promptly stood up, walked away, and came back with a bottle of vodka, which he drank straight from the bottle. "Continue," he declared, sitting back down.

Alice laughed. "So, she said that she was waiting for me to open the Veil and cause Problem the sequel anyway, so that she could return to this Side and we could draw out power from the Eternal itself, essentially becoming Death. But, she gave me two choices - I could do that, or I could close the Veil again, which no one has ever actually done. Considering my mother - the only one to actually ever break the Veil didn't close it, but that was on purpose."

Barnes nodded slowly, taking a long sip of the alcohol. "You closed it, right?"

"Yeah, yeah, don't worry."

Barned nodded, leaning back in his chair and sighing, "I don't get paid enough for this."

Alice grimaced, "Oh, there's also one more thing."

"What?" he sighed.

"Rupert Gale is back. He's the one who shot Anthony."

There was a thick, awkward silence.

"You're giving me high blood pressure."

...

"Ohh, Alice it smells really good," Lucy complimented as she put a fresh, clean tablecloth over the kitchen table."

"Aww, thanks girl," Alice grinned, "It's my secret recipie."

George snorted, "More like Laziza packet Biryani mix."
