The next day, the boys showed up as usual and greeted each other. Riker felt Ellington's face, noticing he had something prickly along his jawline. River retracted his hand asking,
"Why didn't you shave? That feels weird."
"Oh I didn't shave because I slept in and I didn't know what time you'd be here so I rushed." Ellington replied, embarrassed. Riker noticed the tone in his voice.
"Don't be embarrassed, Ell." Riker put his hand back up on Ellington's face, feeling the stubble. "It's not bad."
--
"What's your favorite food?" Ellington asked.
"Burgers and fries. No question asked." Riker replied.
"Okay what's your favorite memory?" Riker asked.
"Um... Probably when I was ten and I went to Disneyland with my parents. We had so much fun and I remember always having the biggest smile on my face." Ellington remembered, a smile spreading across his face, the same happening with Riker.
"That sounds so fun." Riker replied, feeling jealous of the memory. Riker could never go anywhere because 'you have to see to go somewhere fun' as they would say.
"Do you have any siblings?" Ellington asked.
"Yes, I have a brother, Ross. He brings me here everyday and a sister, Rydel. But that's it." Riker answered, "How about you?"
"No, I'm an only child." Ellington responded, sadly.
"I'm sorry." Riker said, reaching out to find is shoulder. "That's supposed to go on your shoulder." Riker whispered, a giggle escaping his lips. Ellington couldn't help but chuckle as he took Riker's hand and rested it on his own shoulder.
"Anyways, back to the game. What's your full name?" Ellington asked, lightening the mood.
"Riker Anthony Lynch, you?" Riker responded.
"Ellington Lee Ratliff." Ellington answered, making Riker giggle again.
"That sounds so proper... Ellington Lee Ratliff..." Ellington's name rolled off his tongue, sounding so right. "I like it."
--
They talked for hours on end until a certain blond came into the store and up to the boys who were giggling away.
"Uh... Riker? It's time to go." Ross said.
"Ross, this is Ellington. Ellington this is my brother, Ross." Riker introduced.
Ellington stood up to shake his hand. It was a bit awkward seeing as Ellington was much taller than Ross.
"Nice to meet you."
"You too."
"Now that that awkward mess is over, let's go." Riker said.
"Alright." Ross answered, going to help Riker up but Ellington beat him to it.
"Same time and place tomorrow?" Ellington asked.
"I'm actually going out of town for the rest of the week but I can see you after." Riker answered.
"Okay." Ellington responded.
And just like that he was gone.
