Eddie kept Sophie on a short leash after returning to Florida.

Lorraine had begged him to be understanding and bartered herself for Sophie's well-being–even the girls were willing to give themselves over to the men just so Sophie would be spared.

Sophie stayed about two weeks in the basement cells with not much human contact, but she was given her books and she lost herself in them–or in thoughts of Saul.

Most nights, she cried herself to sleep and made Joe's life miserable when he did visit –which was only once or twice. During that time, Sophie told him how she truly felt and that she was marrying him against her will. The only thing Joe said was she'd love him eventually. She refused his advances and told him that if he forced himself, she'd castrate him on their wedding night.

Oddly enough, she kept hearing rumors of various hits and client thefts across the underground. Eddie told her that Garcia was weaseling his way back in to the fold, but that seemed strange to Sophie. She didn't say anything though. The less said the better. The less IDEAS she put in Eddie's stupid little head, the better.

Lorraine tried to get information about Saul, but all she knew was that he'd been sent to Sicily. Alexander was hell-bent on keeping him there for a while. It wasn't just to punish Saul, but to keep him safe. Rumors swirled that Eddie and even the Crane's were planning a hit on him, but they couldn't touch him in Sicily.

Lorraine also said that the Swann's and O'Grady's were moving up in the underworld and that the Reynolds and Hamilton's were losing money, clients and soldiers left and right. The DeMarco's were still second in line to Crane for the hierarchy, and that showed they had no intention of slowing down.

Seemed like everyone was waiting for the ball to drop and it was going to be interesting to find out who would come out on top–if anyone.

Sophie was angry most of the time or consumed with so much grief that she'd be almost catatonic.

Eddie made sure to remind her daily that a DeMarco had her father killed and that became ingrained in her mind. Saul claimed he didn't know and he was only 10 when it happened, but she wanted to avenge her father. She didn't have to do it though.

Eddie did, much to her shock.

At least, that's what everyone assumed when Preston and Priscilla were found dead by drowning in their heated swimming pool.

There would be no other acts of vengeance, according to the New York and Florida DeMarco syndicates. The case was closed. People were tired.

It didn't make her feel better though–Sophie didn't know who she was anymore or which end was up. She tried so desperately not to give up on Saul or their future together.

Saul had stayed with family in Sicily and worked for them at their bakery. He caught the eye of many Sicilian girls, but wasn't interested. Nothing interested him more than getting back to his love.

Once the life of the party, Saul had grown tired and weary since the day he was ripped away from Sophie. He kept seeing the horror on her face when they were dragged away from each other--everything they'd worked for turned to shit.

He had nightmares of what she would be going through, terrified of what Eddie and his men were doing to her.

Saul didn't stop planning though. Oh no. He hadn't given up on them yet. Suzy got a message to Micah that Sophie was all right and that she had talked about Saul often.

Saul's brothers were infuriated with what transpired that day at the airport so they were siding with Saul and Sophie. If Alexander knew, he never let on.
