Sophie woke up the next day with a mild headache. She noticed her stuff was placed on a nearby table and there were some other items foreign to her. She didn't remember coming to bed.
The room wasn't like a regular hostage room. She had everything she needed: a radio, television, toilet and shower, her belongings that Suzy knew she needed or wanted. (They were probably searched beforehand anyway.)
She even had her school supplies and book bag, but not her phone or wallet. There was a phone in the room and a button that read "For assistance." She lifted the receiver and pressed the button. It instantly connected her to someone.
"Good morning, Miss Swann,"a male voice said, "I'm Todd. Are you well? Do you need anything?"
"Yeah, my phone and my wallet," Sophie said, "What time is it?"
"Close to 7 and we will make sure you get your items soon," Todd was the poster child of chipper morning people, "Anything else I can do for you? If you'd like breakfast, it will be served soon, however, I don't think you'll have time this morning."
School. Shit, she'd forgotten all about going to school with all that had recently happened.
"No thanks, Todd," Sophie hung up and rushed to the shower, grabbing her items along the way.
The hot shower made her feel better, but she hated her situation. Why couldn't her life be normal? Why did she have to go to school where half if not the majority of kids there were mob or crime syndicate offspring? Sighing, she leaned back and massaged the shampoo into her scalp. Her headache was finally subsiding.
"Yeah, I'm going to wake her up now,"Saul said to his father as they spoke on the phone. Alexander was already gone to work as was Loretta. Both owned a bunch of laundromats and jewelry stores in the city and they'd have to join in on meetings or set up the books, "Yes, I am taking her. She'll skip out if I don't."
Hanging up, Saul fiddled with the keys, tapping on the door, but getting no answer. He opened it and noticed that she wasn't in the bed. He could see the bathroom door was closed and heard the shower running. As tempted as he was, Saul wasn't going to open that door to have a look.
Knocking on it, Sophia screamed, "What the fuck? Who is it?"
"Saul."
"Playboy."
"Hurry up, we have to get going soon,"Saul sat on her bed. He could smell the aroma of her shampoo. Tree tea oil and peppermint. He knew it not just because he already knew the scent, but he was the one who carried Sophie's stuff to her room. Saul had no sisters and he tried to play it cool when he was going through her stuff: pads, tampons, birth control..... Sophie knew someone would be looking through him, but he about made himself unavailable when he pulled out her lace thongs.
"Jesus.."Was all he could mutter before taking her stuff to her room.
The water stopped and he heard the curtain move, "Are you still there?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Making sure I get you to school."
He could hear her blow drying her hair and moving around. After what seemed like a lifetime, she stepped out in her tight blue jeans and a flannel, her hair in a long ponytail down her back and she'd put on earrings.
"I'm surprised you let me have something like my studs here,"she said.
"I'm not worried about being stabbed with an earring, sparks."
Sophie grinned and put her socks and sneakers on, "You could have waited out in the hall."
"I could have,"Saul stood up, his leather jacket, tight black shirt and baggy black jeans almost made Sophie lick her lips, but she caught herself, "But I wanted to see if you'd walk out of there naked."
