He didn't know what possessed him to do it. It wasn't urged by any of the thoughts running through his mind. Perhaps it wasn't fueled by his mind at all. As he listened to her, the back of his mind took notice; how beautiful her murky green eyes were, how her skin was glowing, she was radiant, even as her eyes watered when her emotions boiled over. She was angry with him, or...frustrated? She said he messed with her emotions. Well, she was messing with his too. He finally took notice of the sweet pink shade of her lips. How they were calling to him.
So, without a second thought, he pulled her close, holding her in his embrace. He leaned down, meeting her lips with his. They were soft, why didn't that surprise him? A wave made its way down through his body. It started from his face; his lips or his head? Who knows. But it made its way down, down through the rest of him before making its way back up.
Her chin tilted up. She was not pulling away, on the contrary, she let the kiss deepen. She leaned into him ever so slightly as his grip on her tightened, his one hand moving up to cup her cheek. The tingling sensation finally made its way back to his head. Holy shit. He kissed her. He was kissing her. And he liked it- nay, loved it. His mind was going hazy; is this how kisses always felt? He had spent most of his years at Hogwarts chasing after Lily Evans. With no focus on any other girl, and no sign of reciprocation from the red-head, James had, contrary to what most of the student body thought, never had his first kiss.
Until now. It was not Lily Evans though. It was Odessa Ambrosius. It was the one girl to catch his attention after meeting Lily. It was the one girl his whole demeanour changed for. It was the heir of Merlin; the criminal who acted sweeter than sugar. She was an anomaly; nothing about her made sense.
But maybe it didn't have to. Here, kissing her, he didn't know what compelled him to do it. But he was happy he was. It felt right, having her lips against his. It felt right, holding her in his embrace. And it felt right, as they relaxed, all the tension from their argument moving to the back of their minds.
He never wanted to let her go.
The moment was brought to a halt as the girl pulled back, putting a stop to the kiss and moving out of his embrace. She had a look; Surprise? Confusion? Something was swirling in her head. With a quiet voice, one which broke as if she had not spoken in years, she called his attention back to reality. "..James.""Sunshine." He replied. His lips turned up into a faint smile, one which did not match the rest of his face. He was shaky, nervous. He didn't know what to make of what he just did. He didn't mean to do it. It was an accident. He didn't regret it, though. In actuality, he was trying his best to hold back from going to kiss her again. It was an otherworldly experience. It was magical, more unbelievable than his first display of magic. It made him more ecstatic than when he got his Hogwarts letter.
"James..." She spoke again. She was beginning to sound like a broken record. Her mind was trying to process what had just happened.
"I... sorry. I didn't..." He tried to apologize. He kissed her completely unprompted. Surely this wouldn't make his situation any better. But he couldn't apologize. That would be taking it back. And he didn't want to do that.
"I.." She began. She could finally say something else. That was good. "No, I am sorry. I was... I mean, I know-" She kept cutting herself off. She couldn't finish voicing a single thought that spun in her mind. She gulped, as if resetting her throat so maybe she could speak properly.
"It's late. I should go." She finally managed. She adorned a nervous smile. "See you tomorrow, James."The girl made her way out of Gryffindor, tugging the long, dark coat tighter around her figure. What did she just do?
James remained standing there alone in the common room. His mind wandered. What just happened?
