"Excellent job, Miss Ambrosius. Now, might you try doing it with a wand?" Flitwick encouraged the young Hufflepuff. Some time had passed and classes were now in full swing. For some reason or another, Odessa never seemed to fully participate in the Charms class work. There was always one crucial thing she had been missing. Odessa gulped, before softly shaking her head no. The professor sighed. "Odessa, it is curriculum."
"I... broke mine." She excused with a pleading look, hoping he would let it go again.
"Sunshine..." James spoke softly from her side. Why would she lie over something so minuscule. "Worst it will do is blow a hole through the floor." He set a new target in front of the girl.
"How encouraging." She joked. Her attention returned to the professor who didn't seem so willing to give her an out without a good excuse. "I just do not have it with me."
"What's this here then, Dove?" Sirius asked, taking the stick she had hidden behind her. Her face went white, as if she were Peeves seeing the Bloody Baron. She did not want to use that...thing. She shuffled in her seat; truthfully, she didn't even want to be near it. While examining the wand bundled up in his hand, he sent the girl a puzzled look. "Why's your wand wrapped up like that?" He asked.
Odessa froze. "I-"
"That's not your wand." James cut in, taking it from Sirius. "Yours is English oak. This is darker; like walnut or something."
Odessa clenched her necklace. "Or something." She spoke quietly. "I left mine in London. This... this one is my father's."
Peter looked at her in surprise. "You can use someone else's wand without it backfiring?" He asked.
"I... have used it before." She admitted as if it were a cardinal sin.
"I implore you; attempt the spell with the wand you have on you." Flitwick almost pleaded with the girl.
She shook her head, an apologetic look on her face. "I am sorry, Professor. I cannot."
"Miss Ambrosius." Flitwick sighed. "I want you to do well, but wandwork is a crucial and mandatory part of Charms class. I will have to deduct house points from Hufflepuff and give you a detention if you continue your refusal to participate." He warned in hopes of forcing the girl's hand.
Instead she nodded solemnly. "I understand."
Flitwick sighed. "Five points from Hufflepuff. We will discuss detention on a later date."
As the professor left to help out another student, James turned to Odessa. His face was riddled with concern. "You said you've used this wand before?"
Her eyes remained trained on the desk. "Yes." She answered.
"So it works for you without drawbacks." He continued.
She debated on how she would answer such a question. There were definite issues the last time she used the wand sat before them. "The spell worked."
"It shouldn't be a worry then." Remus tried to encourage her. "It's not like when you used James's wand. You'll be fine."
"Yes, most likely." She agreed monotonously.
