After what is probably some of the least restful two hours of sleep he's ever gotten, (that, between the chatting teens and the bumps the bus seemed to go over at full speed as well as the combination of the potholes the driver might have been aiming for) Danny did at least feel a little bit more alive.
A harsh stop sends Danny's head directly into the seat in front of him.
Well, as alive as he's gonna get.
However, there are some upsides to his unfortunate awakening, exhibit A is leaning over to look down the aisle through the driver's window.
And damn is Metropolis huge .
"Basically New York" is a bit of a misnomer, while the skyline has some buildings that are familiar to him (That is 100% the Empire State Building Danny does not care what anyone else says) there's at least double the amount, and the city itself seems to just keep going .
The bus has been inching through what Danny thinks is a downtown area, stopping at nearly every light crowded between all sorts of different skyscrapers. Next to him, not-not Lancer uses the temporary stop to get up from his seat, one hand clenched onto the pole attached to the drivers seat to keep from being launched as the bus roughly starts up again.
"Alright children, we will be arriving at our lodgings shortly, I expect everyone to be on their best behavior." His eyes sweep across the bus, lingering with a frown at a group near the back that erupts into giggles at the statement.
"As you all know, our school, along with five others, has been selected as an outreach program by LexCorp-" There's a couple of boos at that, again from what seemed to be the same group in the back "- Who has been gracious enough to cover the entire trip with no cost to the schools."
Danny nods along like someone who is definitely from this universe and knows exactly what he's talking about.
Across the bus, however, whispering has started up again.
"Not like those private schools need the discount!"
"Gotham and those two others, right?"
"Gotham's barely a thirty-minute drive from here, they're just taking up the slot so some public school can't embarrass the billionaire-"
"I wonder how many students they got to bring, it was a 4.0 GPA to join right?"
"That's what I was told, but those guys from Brentwood Academy tossed one of the Star City kids into the dumpster at the last gas station so-"
Danny wished so badly to be home, at least there he knew how stuff worked. Listening to all these conversations wasn't nearly as useful as he wished they were, but at least now he knew he's made his life so much harder now that he's got to pretend he's got a 4.0. That at least did answer his question from earlier in the day at least, most of the other teens packed into all the buses must have been upperclassmen, hopefully, he'll be able to pass as a late bloomer long enough to-
"Oh, Jiminy Cricket!" Not-not Lancer gasped it out at the bus came to a sudden halt, evidently enough to knock the teacher off balance, he sends a scowl to the driver before turning to Danny.
"Mr. James if you'd shake Mr. Lloyd from his slumber, I'm sure he's gotten his beauty rest by now." Danny just nods to that, waiting until the teacher turned around again to stuff the schedule back into the other student's bag, awkwardly nudging him awake with a halfhearted poke.
The bus stops outside a hotel, Danny knows because it's got the words Centennial Hotel in gold lettering.
"Alright children, remember, best behavior! I expect single file line out the gate and- oh Tom Sawyer!" Danny snorts as the teacher is shoved past by a group of excited teens.
