Jon's an alien.

Neat.

He's also refusing to elaborate so Danny's gonna have to work off assumption here as the two reach the Daily Planet.

"Damn, feels like it took months just to get here!"

"Oh my goodness there you two are!" From the top of the stairs  comes down the woman from earlier that tore not-Lancer a new one, the  news lady look-alike.

"Sorry Mr. Chin-" Jon leans over and whispers conspiratorially to  Danny, "She's assistant to the superintendent, let me handle this."

"What happened to you two? You've managed to be the only ones  missing from the tour, what happened?" Jon nods along sagely to her  words before saying.

"Yeah, we got caught up in a supervillain attack." Wow, ok, Danny  guesses that's as good an explanation as any, especially as Mr. Chin  pales a little.

"Excuse me?" From behind them, Danny hears some sirens, and  turning to the noise, he catches about half a dozen fire and rescue, as  well as police cars, cut through the traffic.

"Yeah it was pretty crazy, I had to use the bathroom in one of the  shops down there and next thing we know a car gets thrown at the  entrance, we only managed to make it out by going through the window!"

"Goodness!" She says, eyes still locked on the cars retreating  down the street, sirens fading into the distance. "Well- well I hope you  two aren't hurt then?"

"We're fine ma'am!  Superboy   actually helped us out, right Danny?" Luckily, when Danny doesn't  pick up on the cue, Mr. Chin's still looking away and can't see Jon  elbow him in the shoulder.

"Oh! Right yeah he, uh, really helped us out!"

"Good- good yes good, uh you two best get inside now, alright? No  students will be allowed to leave the building until after the  presentations." She seemed to pull herself together again at that,  nodding with her head to the entrance.

"Thankyouma'amsorrytoworrybyeee-" Jon quickly pulls Danny through  the spinning doors of the building, and into a lobby packed with teens.

The inside of the Daily Planet was fairly reflective of the  outside, a large open atrium, barred off by those pulled barrier things  at the sides, preventing students from going further into the building,  and supposedly where most personnel were working.

Danny still has no idea what this building is for.

However, he can see that people do actually seem to work here,  going by the group of well-dressed people waiting at an elevator past  the barrier, most of which carry a bag or briefcase, and all of which  look some degree of annoyed at the current guests.

Jon pulls Danny away from most of the crowd, dipping out in a short hallway next to a water fountain.

"Huh, Damian's snuck out already but-" Danny turns to where Jon's  standing as he starts talking, looking over the crowd of teens, "He'll  need to be back in time to do his presentation so we're not gonna sweat  it too much." Danny nods, going by Jon's reaction, he's pretty used to  Damian acting out like that, he guesses, but the statement did bring to  mind another question on Danny's mind.

"So what's even happening here?"

"Oh! Right, sorry man I completely spaced!" Jon waves his hand a  little as he talks, before reaching back and pulling out a piece of  paper from his back pocket.

"Right, so Lex Luthor, resident zillionaire or whatever, and local  genius super villain, has announced that he's turning his sights to the  future or something, and wants to help schools in the area and the  economy blah blah blah, anyways, he invited five semi-local highschools  to do a presentation competition thing with a handful of the smartest  kids in their districts. Basically everyone here has a pre-written  presentation about what they strive to do to make the world a better  place and the person that does the best gets a 1,000 or so cash prize  and a guaranteed internship with Lex himself." Jon says it, and points  at a big block of text at the top of the paper, referencing it as he  explains, before moving to the rest of it.
