small spider like creatures crawled up along the wires in the maintenance ducts. The Doctor and Jabe came from around the corner, both life forms ducking a bit. "Who's in charge of Platform One? Has it got a captain or what?" The Doctor asked her.

"There's just the steward and the staff. All the rest is controlled by the metal mind." She told him, continuing to follow his footsteps as he lead her.

"You mean, the computer? Well, who controls that?" The Doctor asked.

"The corporation. They move Platform One from one artistic event to another." Jade said.

"Well, there's no one from the Corporation on board." He said.

"They're not needed. This facility is purely automatic. It's the height of the Alpha Class. Nothing can go wrong." Jabe smiled at the man, fully believing that Platform One couldn't have anything wrong with it.

"Unsinkable?" The Doctor asked, looking back over his shoulder.

"If you like. The nautical metaphor is appropriate." Jabe gave him a smile.

"You're telling me! I was in board another ship once. They said that was unsinkable. I ended up clinging to an iceberg, with a very annoyed Jayde who wanted to push me off." He laughed, "it wasn't half cold." He stopped her, "so, what you're saying is, if we get in trouble, there's no one to help us out?"

"I'm afraid not." She frowned.

"Fantastic!" He grinned, moving again with Jade following after again.

"I don't understand. In what way is that fantastic?" Jabe asked, confused. She wondered how Jayde had put up with this man for as long as she has.

"Soon the sun will blossom into a red giant, and my home will die." Cassandra spoke, rolling herself near the window, Jayde and Rose following next to her, their hands still connected as they saw the sun pulsate. Jayde frowned, rubbing her thumb over the younger woman's knuckles, which calmed her slightly. "That's where I used to live, when I was a little boy. Down there. Mummy and daddy had a house built into the side of the Los Angeles Crevasse. I'd have such fun." Cassandra explained. Jayde's frown turned upward. She wished she could comfort Cassandra somehow, at least help her with her grief of losing her planet, like she had lost hers.

"What happened to everyone? The human race, where did it go?" Rose asked the older woman.

"They say mankind has touched every star in the sky." Cassandra told them.

"So you're not the last human?" Rose questioned, hope and disbelief in her voice. Jayde absent mindedly swung their conjoined hands.

"I am the last pure human." She said. Jayde scoffed, looking towards her over Rose's head.
