I've been keeping a secret from my best friend, Chris for the 4 years we've known each other.
I have a crush on him.
I KNOW, classic isn't it?
The last few months, my crush has become stronger and with every day that passes, we're drifting apart.
It's become unbearable to be in the same room as him, not because I don't want to be, but because every bone in my body just wants to tell him how I feel.
If that happens, everything is ruined. So, I haven't been going out much and I haven't been talking to him as often.

Today, that pattern is broken when he calls me.
"Hello?" I say, putting the phone to my ear.
"Hey, Y/N. Can we meet up for a coffee? There's something important I have to ask you." Chris says, his voice trembling a little.
"Sure, when?" I ask, keeping my composure.
"10, at our cafe." He says.
"Okay, I'll see you then." I smile.
"Awesome, thank you. See you soon." He replies.
The call ends, I get up from my bed and stand in front of my mirror.
What does he want to ask me?
Does he know?
Fuck, he knows.
Oh my god.
I shake out my negative thoughts, walk over to my closet and pull out a floral spring dress and grab my heels.
Looking at the time I see it's 9:27AM.
I check my phone to see the cafe is 10 minutes away so I take a breath, change into the dress and head into my bathroom.
Pulling my hair out of my crazy ass bun, I brush it out as I think on if I should put makeup on.
Once my hair is brushed, I pull it into a ponytail and look back at my phone.
9:35AM.
I have time.
I grab my makeup bag, put on some light makeup and as I finish, I see the time is 9:46AM.
I grab my phone and head downstairs, grab my purse and keys, get into my car and start driving to the cafe.

As I get there, I park and walk in to find that Chris and I's table is open so I make my way over to it and sit facing the door.
My palms start sweating and my heart races.
Why am I so fucking nervous?
It's just Chris.
I hope he doesn't know.

My hands start to shake slightly and I hold them together to stop them.
The bell for the shop rings and I look up to see Chris.
It's just Chris, Y/N.
Take a breath.
He looks over at me and smiles.
As he walks over, I can tell he's nervous as well.
Fuck! Why is he nervous!?
I stand up and he hugs me.
"It's nice to see you." I smile.
"You too." He smiles back.
We sit down and sit in silence for a couple minutes until he clears his throat.
"So, um, I was hoping to ask you if you would go with me, Matt and Nick to a masquerade ball tonight." He says, making eye contact with me.
"I'd love to. Can I ask why you're asking me?" I ask, trying not to sound rude.
"Well, you and I have kinda drifted and I miss you. I also know that you love masquerade balls." He smiles, looking down at his hands.
It's true. I'm a sucker for a good masquerade ball.
"I would love to attend it with you." I smile.
He looks up at me smiling.
"What's the color scheme?" I ask.
"Black and gold. My suit is black with gold accents." He replies.
"Wow, look at you with the quick answer and knowledge of fashion." I giggle.
He blushes slightly, "I had to practice because I knew you were going to ask that."
I smile as we get some coffee and chat for a little just catching up.
My phone vibrates and I look down to see it's 1:43PM.
"I need to go get a dress." I giggle.
Chris of course pays and we walk out of the cafe.
"You want me to come with you?" He asks.
"And spoil the surprise? Never." I giggle.
He smiles and wraps me in a hug.
"Thank you." He whispers.
"Of course." I smile as I pull away.
He walks over to where Matt is and I head back to my car.
I drive more into town to my favorite dress shop. I park in front, get out of my car and lock it.
