Rachel walked by herself, but Westin stopped and asked if she wanted to sit with him. She said, "Okay." Arianna was with a few Gee Bees trying to look good, as she wanted to rush. Her mom called the night before. She was out with Christopher, some cop. She hated that her mom had affairs, but she couldn't say anything. Her mom did what she wanted and she envied that Rachel's parents were still together and had a love of a lifetime. After her dad, her mother never cheated. She did time to time think of the sex she had at McDonald's in the break room or the car when she got to drive it. Her mom seduced a barely eighteen year old boy. Her sister was from that boy.
She watched Arianna make a fool of herself. "I hope she gets in the sorority," she told him. A hair flew into her eyes. Her hair was a golden brown. He moved it out of her eye. He smiled and said, "Now you can see." She smiled. She liked him. He was cute. He looked like Austin Butler. He wore preppie clothes and her mom took the family to buy used clothes. She had a cute top on and jean shorts. Westin liked those jean shorts. He legs were tan. He looked between her legs. However, he would wait. He wanted to get to know this one. Plus, he was a virgin, too.
Pretty soon, older students came on the stage doing a stupid rap. It was really boring, and the whole thing was really boring. It was getting along with their roommate to studying "Partying is fun, but we must study," they warned. They made it sound like you had to study or die. "Your roommate may be different..." Her roommate was a whole ball of wax. She outwardly hated her. She said horrible things about her when she was in the room. She blinked away a few tears.
"You okay?"
"Yeah. I just kind of miss home."
"We can take a walk."
"It's okay."
"I am sorry. I feel bad."
"She's rushing a sorority. I hope she gets in."
"Are you?"
"We are too poor. My mom was in one. She said it isn't like it is on TV."
"Oh."
She liked Westin. He was nice. They spent the whole day together. They ate lunch. He noticed she didn't have a lot of money. He bought her lunch. "You didn't have to," she said. "I want to." He secretly wished that he had stayed in Endora, but this would have been a real Romeo and Juliet story. He really, really liked her. When he got back to the room, he called his mom and said, "I met a girl and I really, really like her. Her name is Rachel." She smiled over the phone. "She's pretty. She's tiny. She comes from a small town and I really like her." His mom said, "Well that is wonderful."
Like Westin, Rachel came back to her room and called her mom. She was at the shop. It was close to closing time. She was putting some cold pressed juice in the refrigerator. The phone rang.
"Hi Mom!"
"Rachel! I wish your dad was here. How are you?"
"I met a boy."
"How great! What is he like."
"His name is Westin and he is from Rapid City."
"That is great honey. I hope you are having fun."
"I am now."
They talked for a few more minutes. Her mother was happy for her and hoped she had found "the one". She at her age found a foreign boy who wanted "American Poussey" and then was done with her and married someone else. She had wanted to marry a few other guys, and one of his best friend's girlfriends tattled on her, and it was a streak of men she fucked to marry. Then she got pregnant and her dad forced her to marry Chance. She wasn't happy. They both were cheating. She was sorry she led that life and prayed and prayed her kids would not do the same. So far, Rachel was doing well of not following in her footsteps.
