we finally arrive at my home and i help james and matilda bring the bags in and into the spare bedroom that wasn't occupied by lily or lila. but before i even make it fully inside, lily and lila pop out of nowhere with concerned faces.
they're faces light up for a second as they stare at my sister and her family, going over to give them all big hugs and greetings.
after showing them to their room and giving them space to settle in, lily and lila drag me downstairs to the kitchen.
"what's wrong?" i say confused. lily and lila go back to their concerned faces as they look at each other for a moment, before lily speaks up. "why didn't you answer my calls?"
"you called me when i was driving out the airport and i just assumed you were calling about lila?" i respond, my confusion growing.
they both give each other another glance. "have you by any chance checked your social media?" lila says as lily gets out her phone from her pocket. "no i haven't- why what happened?" i was getting impatient now, confused why they wouldn't just tell me.
then as lily passes her phone to me, my heart sinks.
"i'm so sorry stella. i know you wanted to stay hidden here so as soon as i found out tom and zendaya were spotted at the airport i immediately called you." lily explains feeling guilty. "but i was too late."
