Chapter - 37

Recap: Myra and Keshav share a romantic moment. Ritual to change nuptial thread for Myra is done.

Keshav returned from work early since Myra had taken a day off to rest. A man followed him carrying two boxes and placed them on the teapoy on Keshav's order. He paid some money to the man and once he left he got seated on the couch.

Archana walked from the kitchen with a water bottle and passed it to him.

Keshav: Maa, Where is Myra ? Our home seems to be so quite, is she sleeping or gone out ?

Archana: You know very well about her. She has gone to the neighbour's home 3 home away from us.

Keshav: Why ? Did she go alone or with aunty ?

Archana: Today is the 16th day ritual for the lady who died in that house. They called us and Vasu so Myra accompanied Vasu on behalf of me. I stayed back to cook dinner for you. What are these boxes ?

Roshni arrived from office and got seated on a single seater couch placing her backpack on the floor.

Roshni: What are these boxes ?

Keshav: Maa, I have bought a mini vault for you and Myra. Keep your jewels and expensive things in this and lock with a numeric code. Its not safe to keep your jewels in wardrobe and don't leave them on your vanity.

Archana: Why ? What happened all of a sudden ?

Keshav: Just for safety maa. We don't know what happens the next moment so its better to be safe and take precaution.

Roshni threw daggers at him through her eyes and stormed to her room. Keshav placed a vault in Archana's room and carried one to their room. He placed all the jewels and important documents in it and locked it with a date.

Myra returned home and got refreshed before she sat next to Keshav on the couch. He saw she was very serious and lost in some thoughts.

Keshav: What are you thinking little one ?

Myra: nothing Ketchup, just about this world and the people who are so cruel and heartless. Poor woman.

Keshav: I heard that she died of illness so what does it have to people being cruel and heartless?

Myra: I m not speaking of that. You know that woman is now dead and her family will not have to spend any money on her, they won't have to take her out on vacations, they will not have to buy clothes, food, jewels, they will not have to give her any pocket money and everything they had to do for her one last time was the rituals they did on the day she was dead and today on her 16th day ritual but ..

Keshav held her palms and squeezed them pulling her closer.

Keshav: But what ? What did they do ?

Myra: They could have bought her a expensive garland for her final journey instead of the usual ones. Hardly it would have costed 1000 rupees. Also they would have had numerous moments of her where she was happy with them so they could have chosen to frame a photo of her smiling or in simple they could have chose a candid photo but they chose one in which she was not even smiling. I think they enlarged her passport size photo.

Keshav was curiously listening to her rantings and though her words were right he found cute and funny the way she ranted about it which made him chuckle.

Keshav: now what do you say ?

Myra: That people who are dead deserve the best in their final journey, expensive garland, a nice and smiling photo of them and especially they shouldn't eat non veg just after the 16th day as if they haven't lost someone important in their family.
