"Come on Evans"
"Go away Potter, you already know the answer"
"But I haven't asked you in a week! You could've changed your mind for all I know" James responded hopefully. Lily glanced up from the daily prophet she was holding in front of her with a dangerous look.
"Are you still an entitled dunderhead with no regard for others?" she questioned.
"I regard others!" he protested loudly before looking around for validation. "Hey, McKinnon! Nice flying the other day!" he called out, in an apparent attempt to prove his point.
"Ok, I get it. My flying was terrible and my tryout flopped. There's no need to rub it in" the girl responded with a huff, having apparently interpreted his compliment as a sarcastic taunt. Lily raised a brow at him.
"That wasn't my fault, I was being nice" he quickly defended himself.
"Which you never are. Which is exactly why she automatically assumed you were making fun of her" Lily challenged before going back to reading the paper.
James huffed at her unwavering stance on his romantic efforts but then quickly perked up at the sight of his best friends entering the great hall. Remus was the first to approach and came to sit on the other side of him.
"Oi, Lupin. Tell Evans how nice I can be" he requested of his friend. You and Peter, who had entered not far behind, came to sit opposite the three of them.
"Well Smith fell in the lake yesterday and James did go over to help him" Remus began helpfully.
"See! Thank yo-"
"But not before he spent about five minutes cry laughing" Marlene added from a little further down the table.
"In all fairness, it was hilarious" Sirius, who was the last to join them, announced as he came over. "Morning everyone" he then added in greeting, ruffling Peter's hair as he passed and then sitting beside you, leaning over to place a kiss to your temple. Lily glanced up from her paper to observe the small gesture.
As the rest of the group broke into discussion about some unrelated topic, the red head watched on as you turned in your seat to begin sorting out Sirius' morning hair, since he clearly had yet to tame it himself. It was an affection that he seemed more than content with.
Lily was soon roped back into the conversation by James and by the time she looked to observe the pair of you again, you were back to eating and conversing with everyone else.

Two days later Lily had agreed to join a group study session with the Marauders. Something she started to think was a potential mistake as she looked around the table, waiting to begin.
At the moment, Remus was discreetly munching on some chocolate behind a propped up book, routinely lifting his head to peer around the room and make sure he wasn't caught by the librarian.
Peter was making a house out of the school books in front of him.
You were nowhere to be found.
And Sirius was standing a few tables over with his arms folded, talking to a pretty Ravenclaw girl from the year below.
