That evening felt different from the others. She was walking back home, but her thoughts were somewhere else. 'Redemption.' She couldn't help but wonder everything she heard on the TV today. She was searching online about whatever Lucifer's daughter claimed as she walked. She couldn't even think about the smell of the blood everywhere. That already bloody looking town was still filled with actual blood from the extermination, but she was so excited that she didn't notice.

'If the hotel actually works, then we still have hope to end this madness.' excitement filled her body. Her heart was beating faster as her walking also fastened. For some reason, she hadn't thought about redemption all those years.

She stormed into her house, dropping everything she was holding down as she went straight to the table. Her house was old, almost abandoned looking. The walls were losing their original color. The floors were broken, and many pieces were missing. Every piece of furniture was damaged, and every corner of the house was filled with darkness. The only source of light was the one window in the living room that was viewing the countdown clock.

She started writing everything she knew about Charlie's plan as if her life depended on it. She found the emptiest wall she could find and started to place everything she could find there connecting them with red tread, making her own evidence wall. Only one thing was missing. Actual evidence. She tried to find evidence that showed it could work, but she couldn't find any. Her excitement faded as she started feeling hopeless again. She was looking at the wall, trying to find something to make her believe in it. In the idea of redemption. She fell on her knees as she was losing hope.

"You know, every single one of the people who have ever lived has sinned." she remembered her once favorite person telling to her when she was young.

"Then why some of them are good and others  are bad?" her younger self asked, curious as she was going to bed holding her favorite person's hand.

"Because it's true. Even though everyone sins, there are people who are good and others who simply aren't ,sweetheart." she said to her as she was tucking her in bed.

"I don't understand. What's the difference between them?" her younger self asked, puzzled as she was trying to get comfortable in bed. Her favorite person smiled at her as she was gently touching her hair.

"The only difference is that some people embrace their inner demons while others regret their actions and try to change for better. " she remembered her younger self being amazed hearing her saying that. "Only some of them cross that thin line and rise above their nature, becoming better people. That's how hell and heaven can exist." her favorite person said to her before she fell asleep.

Her memory made her feel like she could still have hope. She wanted so desperately to believe everything she had said to her back then.

It was almost midnight when she was waiting for him on the countdown clock as always. She knew he would come if he saw her up there. It was their spot, after all. She was so excited that she couldn't even hide her smile. Her hands were holding all the ideas and proof she could find about redemption.

"Could this actually be the end of it?" she took a deep breath as she hugged the pile of papers she was holding. She looked at the sky and smiled. It seemed less bloody than usual. Everything seemed prettier for the first time since she had arrived in hell.

Lucifer was in his house. He went on the balcony, wondering if it was a good idea to give her what he had made for her or not when he saw her waiting for him. It was the same each time. The very same place they made that promise the day they met all those years ago. He smiled to himself and took a deep breath. This was better than just a sign. He hid the small present in his back pocket before he teleported right behind her. "Does someone need some company?" his voice was calm as he walked closer to her with his hands crossed behind him. She turned and looked at him. Her smile became even bigger when she saw him.

"Lucifer!" she said louder than usual. He could tell she was excited. That made him smile a little bit more as he came closer to her.

"It hasn't been that long since you left my house, you know." he said in a goofy way before he placed himself next to her. "What could have possibly made you so excited." he couldn't wait to hear whatever was in her mind. He loved the way she was thinking  and couldn't help but be happy seeing her so excited. It wasn't something he could see very often, but he loved that side of her.

"I've got something to show you." she turned her whole body towards him, still smiling. She tried to calm herself down but failed.

"Funny cause I also have something for you." he said, smiling. "But you were the one waiting for me here, so you can go first."  She didn't expect him to also have something to show her. His anxiety started to rise as he thought about the gift he had made her.

"What a gentleman." she said jokingly as she raised her eyebrows. Anxiety started to fill out her body as she realized she had to start talking. She didn't know how he was going to react. They both looked at each other in silence. He gave her a smile so sweet ,that banished all her worries away. He was Lucifer, after all. Her friend Lucifer who was always there for her. She took a deep breath and smiled back at him.

"There is still hope." she showed him the pile of papers she had gathered all afternoon, still smiling.

"Your daughter might have found the solution to end the extermination." she couldn't hold her excitement anymore. She started  showing him the papers as she was talking, but Lucifer had frozen.

"That's what made you so excited? " he asked, but the tone of his voice had shifted to something more disappointing.

"What do you mean? Luci! This is a great idea. If you-"

"This is not going to work, Valerie." he interrupted her with a harsh tone before he could hear anything else. Valerie had frozen. Her smile had dropped. "My daughter is just wasting her time. Don't do the same." his expression was harsher than his words. Valerie's hands dropped down.

"How could you say that. We haven't even tried." she sounded desperate, but that didn't change anything for him. She tried to take a deep breath to calm her down.

"I don't need to tryil it to know that it's going to fail." he yelled at her. She was stocked. He had never yelled at her before.

"Sometimes things aren't just black and white, you know." her voice was weaker than before, almost trembling sounding. This situation was painful for her. "If there is still hope, why wouldn't you try even if the odds are against you?" her voice became more steady as she tried to reason with him. She was still looking at his eyes, hoping to find a way to make him listen.

"I am not planning to play losing games, Valerie. Heaven won't let sinners enter Heaven. Why are you so delusional? Redemption? You all had your chance to redeem yourselves but chose not to." he continued yelling at her. He was furious. Her heart dropped. She didn't want to believe what she had just heard. She took a few steps back when Lucifer tried to hold her arm. Tears appeared in her eyes, but she was not willing to show him that.

"If that's how you feel..." she didn't finish her sentence. She started running to the exit, leaving him alone there. She stopped in the middle of the staircase, still hoping he would follow her, but he never did. She looked at the papers in her hand and crumbled them as she fell on her knees, crying.

Lucifer froze when he realized what he had said to her. He knew he had no right following her, so he just stood there watching her,as she was leaving him behind. His legs couldn't hold him anymore. He fell on his knees.

"Why... why... why on hell did you say that..." he shouted to himself, holding back tears. He didn't know what had gotten into him. He knew he didn't need to be so harsh, but his heart ached when he heard her considering redemption a choice. He truly believed it wasn't possible, but the thought of her trying to redeem herself and go to heaven made him go crazy. He was afraid of losing her. 'Why didn't I realize it sooner?' He thought as he took out of his pocket the present he made for her that afternoon. A small rubber duck that looked just like her. He was disappointed in himself. He went too far. He had pushed her away when the only thing  he truly wanted was to keep her close, and he knew that.

"What have I done?" he cried, hugging the rubber duck.
