exercise gym in Midtown, old lives with new, chipped stone pillars and archways among shiny new gym equipment.
In the line of treadmills, Jane walks leisurely, the healed wound in her stomach still somewhat dictating her pace.
Earbuds in, she listens to a couple conspiracy theorists talk about summons on their podcast, like it's a hunt for bigfoot.
They discuss rare breeds of summons that people are still learning of, ones that don't live alongside humans, choosing to remain more secluded than others in this world.
Taking the treadmill next to her, a tan skinned man wipes the sweat from his neck, hanging the towel over the arm rail of the machine. Glancing to his neighbor, the good looking man chokes on a sip of his water, eyeing the neighbor's looks.
Seeing Jane is paying no mind to him, the man starts the machine, increasing speed quickly.
She scrolls some searches, the keyword being shadow shifter, curious what people have seen and know.
Her lack of interest increases the speed of the man's treadmill further. An occasional lean to see the direction of her eyes decides his actions.
He runs along on the machine, wanting it to look as easy as it is for him. Trying a riskier method, he hops around, trotting like some salsa dancer trying to multitask.
One foot in the wrong place and he flops to the mat, the treadmill grinding him onto the floor.
The crash and grunts go unheard, Jane turning off her machine and stepping off. Taking her water, she walks away from the pile of handsome man slumped on the floor beside her.
Finding a lonely corner near the weights, she chooses her next exercise.
Taking a lower pound, she grabs a seat on the bench and continues scrolling her phone while curling the weight in the other.
Casually strolling up, the man takes his time deciding which weights to go with, glancing back her way at times.
He snatches up a couple 30lbs dumbbells. Curling one after another, he spends more time spotting her than himself.
Her interest still on her phone, Jane reflects on Creep's breed, and what he said about it in the bank. According to the lack of information on it even among fanatic podcasts and eccentric forums about summons right alongside alien sightings, Creep must really be one of the last of his breed, if not the last of it.
Seeing his efforts are going unnoticed, the man returns his 30lbs weights, replacing them with 50.
A little more work, sweat begins to bead at his dark hairline.
