Its official, I've fallen crazy behind in my work. I knew I was taking more and more time off and that I was letting more of my staff take on responsibilities, which is what I needed to do anyways, but the paperwork is all on me, and right now I'm behind by a lot.
I have transactions to go through for the months end, I have the cash floats from each night to review and I have each person's hours and pay to review. I've been looking into an online platform for people's pays because it'll save me some time, but I actually need the time to be able to look into them.
I decide to finish the pay's first since it's the easiest task for me. I consider taking a break but decide that I'll take one once I get a decent chunk of the transactions done. As I get all the info I need for the transactions, my phone starts to go off. It's Tony.
"Hey." I say into my phone. I get up and close the door to my office then put my phone on speaker so I can put it down beside me while I continue working.
"Hey, how are you?" Tony asks me. Back in the day Tony calling me to ask me how I was doing would've been weird but we've been around each other for a couple months now. Now I would find it weird if I didn't hear from him.
With that said, I haven't talked to him much since the bakery's event. Everything's been going good with Jordan lately and I didn't want to screw it up, and Tony's been looking after his mom, plus there's the whole I'm super behind at work aspect so it hasn't left a lot of room for socializing.
"Busy." I say. I find a number mistake on one of my papers that I had made earlier and scold myself for making such a dumb mistake on important papers. I really need to pay more attention to what I'm doing. "How're you? How's your mom?"
"We're good. She's still trying to do everything herself like she doesn't have one arm out of commission right now. It's driving me crazy. She tried to rearrange her entire living room set yesterday before I went over and stopped her." he says. I can hear the smile on his face when he talks about his mom. She drives him, and me crazy but we can't help but love her anyways.
"We should've let her paint with one arm." I joke. It would be fun to see, though.
"She keeps commenting on the paint. I missed one, one spot and it's all she can talk about every time she goes into the kitchen and sees it." he says exasperated. "It's literally a spot right near the floorboards too, no one is looking there."
"She is." I point out.
"Yes she is." Tony says with a groan. The lightness in his voice dies down and is replaced with a more serious tone. "So, I haven't really heard from you in a week. Is everything good?"
I almost laugh. If only I could tell him the truth. If only I could say that I have feelings for him which is wrong and I know it because I have a serious boyfriend and, well, Tony's already left me once so what's to get me to trust him again? If only I could tell him that I can't ever get him off my brain even when Jordan and I are in bed together.
"I'm behind at work." I tell him, deciding that this is the safest answer.
"Like, baking stuff? I thought you had a team."
"I do, but I'm behind on paperwork stuff." I tell him. "I haven't been as active at work so I've kind of fallen behind."
"Hire someone for that." he says as if it's the easiest thing in the world.
"I still need to go through the whole hiring process of looking over resumes then doing the interview process, paperwork for hiring and all that fun stuff." I explain. "I am going to look into hiring someone for it, but right now I need to get my usual paperwork done before I start all that."
"I can help." he offers.
It makes me smile. "You want to help hire someone or do paperwork?"
"Uh, papers?"
Now I full on laugh. The confidence in his voice is nonexistent. "Thanks, Tone, but I think I'll be fine. I already mapped out which day which paperwork is being done on, and if nothing crazy happens I should be done by Friday at noon."
"Sounds like you're going to have a busy week." he says. I think I even hear a little disappointment in his voice. "At least come over this weekend."
My pen stills in my hand. "Come over?"
"Yeah, like to my house? I think that's what coming over implies?"
"I've never been to your house." I say.
He laughs at this. "That's why I'm inviting you. After a week of long, hard work you deserve to take a Friday afternoon off and relax. Unless you have plans already?"
I do have plans with Jordan for our meeting day anniversary, but that's only on Saturday. Besides Tony is right, I'm going to have a long week of hard work ahead of me. Going to his place would be nice and relaxing, exactly what I'll be needing. Plus, I hate admitting it but I have missed seeing Tony.
"Okay." I say finally. "Just tell me when and I'll be there."
We hangup a couple of minutes later after solidifying our plans. I'm going over Friday at 2pm and I'm to do nothing but relax once I get to his place. I'm not even allowed to bring any desserts or drinks with me, just myself and a calm mind, which I told him I could only half promise. After all I'm going to be in his house, how could I have a calm mind about that, especially since all I'm looking forward to now is seeing him and his place Friday.
