Tony is officially ignoring me. I know this because over the span of a week I called him four times and texted him six times. He ignored every single one. I even went as far as to show up at his place twice but he didn't answer the door even though both times his car was in the driveway. By the end of the week I was getting desperate so I dropped by his moms place to tell her everything. She was overjoyed to hear that she would be a grandmother and she was arguably even happier when I told her that I needed her to help me get Tony over here to talk to me.
So we set a plan in motion. Friday evening I dropped by her place just after supper, half hoping Tony would be there already. He wasn't, of course, so we set our plan into motion. She called him crying that she had fallen down while gardening and hit her arm, saying she needed him to come get her and bring her to the hospital. Of course it worked and he said he would be over in an instant, which leads us to now.
We smile at each other as we hear the sound of Tony's car screeching to a halt in the driveway. Shortly after we hear the front door open and closed and next thing we know, Tony comes bursting through the door the backyard, his face lined with worry. Instead of finding his mom on the ground or even hurt, he finds her sitting right beside the door completely and utterly unharmed. She smiles up at him smugly, loving the fact that she and I tricked her son into showing up here by using her broken arm as an excuse.
"What happened?" he asks her, still worried. His eyes slide over to me and his expression turns from concerned to confused. "What's going on? Are you hurt?"
"No." she says, smiling.
"You called me saying you got hurt!" he says loudly.
His mom stands up and pats him on the back as she heads in the house. "I think you two need to talk."
"You tricked me into coming here?" he asks, turning towards me and looking a little annoyed. Okay, very annoyed.
"You weren't returning my calls or texts." I say.
"So take the hint." he says. "And that doesn't mean you use my mom as some pawn to get me over here, Ava." I can see that he's pissed off, but I don't think its all due to me tricking him. Just seeing me, after everything that's happened, is a trigger for him.
"I know, and I'm sorry, but I had a good reason." I tell him. "And you know your mom, she was so into doing it."
He looks at me expectantly. "It better be good a good reason."
When we were younger we had talked about having kids someday, once Tony had his career launched and I had my successful bakery started. We'd talk about how we wanted at least a boy and a girl first, before we would maybe talk about having another baby, hopefully a second girl. we would talk about what to name them and how far apart we should have them. I always wanted Irish twins, but Tony always said that would be a lot of work and really hard on my body, which I always thought was sweet of him to think of. It was an easy conversation when we were younger, but now that so much has changed, I'm wondering if he's changed his thoughts on kids too. Here goes nothing.
"I'm pregnant." I say to him. When I found out I was pregnant, I thought it was Jordan's for just a split second, but in that split second the only thing I felt was dread. When I realized it was Tony's I felt dread because it meant that I had to live up to the consequences of my actions, but the thought of carrying Tony's child made me ecstatic.
Tony looks at me with an unamused expression on his face. When he speaks his tone is as dry as can be. "Congrats to you and Jordan I guess. He must be overjoyed."
I can't help but let a grin spread over my face. "It's not his."
"You were with someone else-" he starts to say but suddenly stops dead in the middle of his sentence. "Ava, are you telling me what you think you are?"
I nod my head in excitement. I feel so giddy in this moment, I just hope Tony feels the same.
"It's mine?" he asks, still not quite believing me.
"Yes!"
"You're pregnant with my baby?" he asks again. He's still in shock over it. I don't blame him, after all I was in shock too.
"Yes, Tony, I'm pregnant with your baby." I say. "Are you, are you happy?"
"Are you kidding me?" he says loudly. "Of course I'm happy." he closes the gap between us, throwing his arms around me happily. He holds me so snug against him. I breathe this moment in, me in his arms with his baby. This is everything I've ever wanted.
"What about Jordan?" he asks, pulling back a little so he can really look at me.
"There's no more Jordan. Things are done with him." I tell him. "It wasn't right, he wasn't you."
"Are you sure?" he asks me. "I don't want you to give up everything you ever wanted just for me, I-"
I can't help it anymore, I interrupt his talking so I can kiss him. I've been thinking about doing this since the very first day I saw him and every other day since then.
"You're everything I ever wanted." I tell him.
He pushes a lock of hair from my face and studies me, his face filled with love and wonder. For me!
"I've been waiting for this moment since the first day I saw you." he says to me.
"Can I tell you something?"
"Always."
"I've been waiting too." I say.
He pulls me in for another kiss, soft and sweet. His arms are around me and his body is pressed to mine and I can't help but want to drink in this moment forever.
The weight that I've been carrying around is finally lifted off my chest and all I feel now is happy.
