The turnout for the bakery's anniversary is a pretty good one. I didn't invite the whole town because I don't have the space or the care to. I invited the entire crew from work plus their families, Jordan and his family, although his family couldn't make. I also invited a couple of friends I don't get to see often and I invited a couple locals who come in on a regular basis. Overall there were 40 invites sent out to people to help me celebrate today.
So far most people are in attendance, and they seem to be enjoying their time. I've debuted my themed cupcakes since the themed cakes have been doing so well. Dena did a great job on the rest of the desserts, making the mini apple pies I added to the menu, as well as various trays. She also went as far as to craft the cutest presentation of everything that I've ever seen. As soon as everything was set up I went out of my way to tell her how amazing everything looks. It was the least I could do, after all she made this night happen.
Almost two hours into the night I'm talking to one of our local customers when I see him walk in. I know he's nervous walking into a group of strangers but on the outside, he doesn't look it at all. He's wearing black pants, a black shirt and a black blazer on top. His hair is styled so it's slightly slicked back, he has Vans on and a black and gold watch on his wrist. I hate to admit it, but Tony looks really, really, really good. I'd even go as far as to say that he looks fucking hot.
He finds my eyes almost immediately, his face breaking into a giant smile as he does. He makes a beeline for me, not even noticing a single other person in the room. To be fair, neither am I right now.
"Hey." he says as he gets to me. He pulls me into a warm hug and I take the moment to breathe in the smell of him, loving every second of it. When we pull away he smiles at me, making me get lost in it for a second.
"Thanks for coming." I say to him. Now that he's here it feels ...complete? Like now the event is truly how it should be, now its really started. The realization is unsettling to me.
"I wouldn't miss it for anything." he tells me, and I know that its not an exaggeration. I can see it in his face that he would've done anything to get here.
Suddenly I feel a hand slide onto my back from behind me. I'm so focused on Tony that it startles me a little. I glance up to see Jordan standing beside me, and judging from his tense face and stance, he's already figured out who I'm talking to. I'm guessing the tattoos are kind of a giveaway for what guy here could be my famous ex-boyfriend. I turn back to Tony and see that his body language matches Jordan's. God why did I think this would be a good idea?
"Jordan, this is Tony. Tony, Jordan." I say, smiling at both of them in a way that tells them they better fucking behave right now.
Unsurprisingly Jordan puts an act on. He extends his hand to Tony and gives him a smile as if they're best friends. "Hey man, it's great to meet you. Ava's told me a lot about you." he says. He says the last sentence in a friendly tone, but it's clear the words aren't intended to be friendly.
Tony, ever the gentleman, puts on the same act as Jordan. "I've only heard great things as well. It's nice to finally meet you." he says with a smile. "You must be really proud of her for all this."
Jordan smiles down at me and squeezes me closer into him. "How could I not be? She's done amazing. It also helps that I get to try all of her experiments, I think that might be my favourite part of the whole deal."
Tony laughs to be polite, but I know he doesn't find any humour in this at all. "I think I should find myself someone who likes to bake then."
Jordan smiles at him, his smile clearly fake now. "Hey, as long as it's not this one," he says while squeezing me against him. "Then I think that's a great idea."
