I sighed as I stared at the clock in class. Just a few more minutes, and I'll be gone. Mrs. Hopkins was teaching into the bell, something I used to like because it allowed time for the hallways to clear up.

I looked around the class, my eyes always seemed to be drawn to this curly-haired Jew, Stanley Uris. I would see him at lunch and with his friends outside of school, but I never talked to any of them. I never really talked to anyone, except Betty Ripsom. Me and her were inseparable, until my parents split and I moved to live with my (parent). When we came back, I was met with a missing flier with the face of my only friend.

Greta found that out and constantly bothered me about it. I think she's a lot tamer compared to Henry Bowser, and I felt bad for anyone whom he decided to torment. I was lucky he was a gentleman and never attacked someone like me, unless it was to call me a whore or slut.

I continued to stare at the back of his head, and like always, the bell rang and Hopkins kept us on for another minute to talk about a summer reading assignment and to wish us a good break. I waited to leave, letting others go first. As I stood up, I went to the door and bumped into Stanley on the way out. I muttered sorry and he looked at me with a small smile, saying sorry as well.

I traveled down the hall after cleaning out my lockers. I noticed Stanley and his friends dumping their backpacks in the trash outside. I smiled to myself before getting on the school bus, choosing to ignore the sight of Betty's mom.

Paper balls threw across me as the bus grew louder with more kids getting on. It even began to shake a bit with the bus driver stepping off to smoke.

I put my window down, the sun and breaths of mouth breathers steamed the bus. As I pulled it down, something flew towards me, hitting my nose. It didn't hurt, as I picked up a small paper plate. I sat down in my seat as I stared at it. The bus jolted as the bus driver waited for the other buses to leave the street. I quickly looked out my window and noticed Stanley looking in my direction. I blushed, but it seemed like he wasn't only staring at me, but the bus in general.

I realized that the disk was probably his kippah, remembering seeing it on him before we left. I noticed him shake his head as he looked away. I quickly jumped to my feet and threw the kippah like a frisbee towards him. It hit his ankle and he leaped away before seeing it was his kippah. He smiled and brushed it off, looking around to see where it came from. His friend with glasses hit his shoulder and pointed at me.

I held eye contact with Stan for a few seconds before the bus driver shouted, "sit down!" I quickly followed his demand while everybody 'looked' around me. I stared at him through the bottom window as the bus drove away. I saw his friend laugh, hit his chest and say something.

I smiled back at him, as we passed the corner. I sighed to myself as another paper ball hit my head. "Go on, read it!" A girl giggled and chewed on her gum loudly. I did what she said and unraveled it.

"Should have been you, not Ripsom."

I sighed and just nodded along, I folded the note up and placed it inside my bookbag.

After 30 minutes of hearing the girls shit talk about their friends and hitting my head on the cracked bus windows, I finally was dropped off home. By now, most of the girls were gone and I waddled off.

I walked in my house. My (parent) was asleep in their room because of their night shifts. I would usually make myself dinner and wake them up. I yawned as I dumped my bag on the floor and laid on the couch. I stared at the ceiling for a while before looking back at my bag. I reached in the pocket and pulled out the note.
