After Dee muttered her apology, I couldn't help but soften a bit. Despite our arguments, she was still my little sister, and I cared about her more than anything. Taking a deep breath, I decided to let go of the tension that had filled the room moments before.
"Alright, truce," I said, offering her a small smile.
"Truce," Dee echoed, returning the smile.
"You did cook, Dee? Mi hungry right now," I asked, feeling the rumble of hunger in my stomach.
"No," Dee said, her expression sheepish.
"U can whip up somu quick, Dee?" I asked hopefully.
"Well, I would if I could. Only some banana chips and a Kool-Aid in the fridge right now, and trust me, the banana chips dem stale," she replied with a sigh.
"Shit, because mi a work week day and weekend now, mi can't even find time to buy groceries."
"So, wah we ago eat?" Dee asked, her stomach rumbling in agreement.
"Wah time? Nuh where open now?" I inquired.
"8:30. KFC prob open," Dee suggested.

"Can I get 2 barbecue zinger combos, please?" I ordered.
"No barbecue zinger," the cashier replied.
"Ok then, can I get a barb—"
"We don't have nothing here with barbecue, miss," the cashier interrupted.
"Then might as well unu look the damn place!" I muttered under my breath.
"Give me two big deal hot and spicy and two corn," I said, frustration lacing my words.
"Will that be all?"
"Yes, your total is $3200, mama," the cashier said.

"A barbecue u buy?" she asked.

"Might as well they close the damn store. It no make sense," Dee grumbled.
"That mi say too," I agreed, feeling equally annoyed.
"126! 126!" the a voice called out.
I collected our food. "Dee, you want we eat in here or home?"
"Home, because there are some of my classmates in here, and they are staring," Dee said, feeling uncomfortable.
"Ok then, let's go home," I agreed.

"Take one and give me one," I said to Dee as we settled at the kitchen table.
"Oh, them no fi have no barbecue," I muttered, irritated at the absence of my preferred flavor.
"How's school, Dee?" I asked, trying to change the subject.
"I have practical fi foods class Thursday," Dee replied, digging into her food.
"Is it group work or individual?" I inquired.
"Individual, and I'm making fry rice and shrimp," Dee said proudly.
"We can go to the supermarket Wednesday because I only get one day of the week break," I suggested, planning ahead for our grocery trip.
"I'm thinking of upgrading my phone from the XR to a 12, what you think?" I asked Dee, eager for her opinion.
"Why don't you get the 15? You got me one recently," Dee suggested.
"It's okay, I want the 12 because it's purple and its my favorite colour," I explained.
" Just because of the colour you're something else," Dee chuckled.
"Goodnight, Dee-Dee I am feeling tired," I said,
"Goodnight, Kia," Dee replied.
