Julie and I walked up towards her room, then into it. I hesitated a little at the door, remembering Julie yelling at us to say out. Also, remembering me trespassing in it once today. My heart aching, remembering the paper in my pocket, my eyes turning to the bouquet of roses on the desk and making my stomach sink.
"Are you coming?" Julie quirked an eyebrow at me, walking towards her closet and pulling a string down from the ceiling. A folding ladder unfurled itself in front of Julie, she nodded her head towards the ladder. "Oh yeah, I'm coming." I walked over to Julie in her closet, the small alcove enveloping me in the smell of Julie. "I'll climb up and pass you stuff down; you hold the ladder down with your foot while I hand you stuff." I nodded at her and placed my foot on the bottom rung of the ladder to hold it down.
Julie climbed the up the ladder steps in front of me, giving me the most amazing view of her ass, I'm not about to pass up a great opportunity when I see one. And I saw one. "Better not be staring at my butt." Julie laughed as she disappeared into the attic space. "And if I was? What are you gonna do? Kill me? You're a little late." I chuckled to her. Shuffling and mild cursing from the attic space echoed down to me. "Need some help?"
"NO!" She snapped, oh okay, won't ask that again. I chuckled under my breath. "Got it! First thing coming down!" Julie shouted, appearing again at the opening and handing down a box labeled for an air mattress. I grabbed it from her and set it down to the side, waiting for the next thing to be passed down. "What do you think we should do tonight? Video games? Board games? Movie marathon?" I rattled off options, a marathon would give me an opportunity to cuddle up with Julie. Maybe she'd even fall asleep on my shoulder, her arms around my waist, tucked up in a blanket. "Those all sound like fun, I bet Alex will want board games, something classic like Monopoly or Clue or something." Julie said, her laugh echoing down to me like soft rain.
A moment later and she passed another box down, also labeled for an air mattress. "Anything else? Are we emptying the whole attic?" I called up the ladder to her. "Ha ha. Yeah, one more. It's a tote of sleeping bags." The disembodied voice of Julie yelled back. "Okay, pass it down whenever you're ready." A tote slowly began appearing at the edge of the attic space door. "Coming down!" Julie shouted before handing the final thing down to me. "Coming down!" Then Julie started lowering herself down, her foot slipping on the second step causing Julie to tumble backwards.
I reached out and plucked Julie from the air as she fell, cutting her shout short as I wrapped my arms around her. I let my foot off the ladder, and it snapped back into place. "Thanks Luke." She smiled up at me as I cradled her in my arms, neither of us moved away. "Jules, I-." Reggie and Alex poofed into Julie's doorway. "Everything okay? We heard a scream." Alex said before fully taking in the scene in front of us. Sending me a sheepish grin after realizing he interrupted something.
"Yeah, totally, everything is fine." Julie blushed, moving out of my arms, I clenched my jaw a little. We keep getting interrupted when I just want to talk to her, we haven't gotten to really talk since before we played the Orpheum. And even that was more of a goodbye talk, her asking me to tell her mom she loves her and to thank her for sending us to her. We didn't have much time for anything else before, now it feels like we have all this time and we're wasting it.
"You okay Luke?" Julie asked from beside me. I blinked a couple of times and realized that they were all staring at me. "Oh, uh yeah, sorry. What were we talking about?" I scratched the back of my neck and tried to act cool. Julie rolled her eyes at me, but a grin pulled at her mouth. "We were talking about going and setting up the studio for the night. And what we wanted to do." She explained, Alex bounced a little on his toes. "I think board games would be fun." Julie and I exchanged a glance and fought smiles, knowing she called it. "Or video games?" Reggie suggested hopefully, since we learned to touch things, he's been obsessed with how amazing video games have gotten.
