Luke's POV
Sitting back, waiting for Julie to come back from the kitchen all I could think about was the feeling of Jules under my arm, smell of her hair... God my thoughts sound creepy even to myself.
Julie's scream jolted me from my thoughts. I poofed into the kitchen, wildly looking around for her, not seeing anything. "Jules?!" I tried not to sound as panicked as I felt, taking a step forward, my foot into something wet and cold. Looking down, I saw water on the floor and little shards of glass. "Julie?!" I stepped quickly and carefully around the counter and saw Julie crouched and shaking on the floor, her hands over her head. "Julie??" I repeated, carefully putting my hand on her arm that covered her head.
"Is he gone?" She asked, her voice shaking a little bit as Jules let her hands fall away. "Who Jules?" She was really freaked out, her eyes wide and her arms still shaking. "I think I saw Caleb outside the window, over the sink."
My heart stopped. Again, I guess.
"Are you sure?" Fire burning in my blood as she nodded. I quickly stood up and looked out the window as two soft whooshes came behind me. "What's going on?" Reggie demanded, still groggy. "Are you okay?" Alex asked, crouching beside Julie and helping her stand up. "I don't see him. Are you sure it was him Julie?" Swinging around to look at her again, Julie looked like she was going to be sick. "See who?" Reggie asked, looking around outside the windows. "Caleb." I swallowed the bile in the back of my throat at his name.
"I-I don't know, I never actually met him. But, the look in his eyes, the feeling in my bones..." She shook her head. "He has that effect." Alex said, looking a little green too. "If he was, then he isn't there now. Let's go somewhere else." I picked my way out of the glass and water puddles. "Let's just go sit in my room, less windows and it's the second floor." Julie nodded, agreeing with herself. Reggie was already grabbing the broom for the glass pieces.
"Here, careful Jules." Bending down and scooping her up without much thought about it. I didn't want to have to pick glass out of her feet after just taking her into the ER for a head injury. Walking carefully out of the kitchen and into the living room, I hesitated for a second by the stairs but decided to just keep going. Alex grabbed the snacks and followed Jules and I upstairs, I tried not to look down at Jules as I walked her up the stairs. I'd probably fall on my face or drop her if I looked down at her, her arms around my neck and staring up at me through her lashes.
Alex unloaded his arms of snacks onto Julie's desk as I set Julie down on her bed. "You know, there was only glass on the kitchen floor." Julie teased, pulling her legs underneath herself on the bed. "Yeah yeah, like I'm gonna risk you hurting yourself even more." Rolling my eyes, I leaned against the wall, Julie's eyes kept darting to her window, dark and half covered by her curtains.
"Need me to check for monsters?" I teased her, but the look in her eyes answered me. I made a big show of it, making even Alex laugh, acting like a scary monster hunter. Flinging open the curtains and pointing my finger guns out the window. "All clear." I holstered my finger guns and threw myself backwards on the bed, my head landing next to Julie's knee. "You fought bravely." She laughed, running her hand over my forehead, brushing my hair from my eyes. "Alright, party relocated. What's next." Reggie proclaimed, coming into the room and flopping down so hard in Julie's desk chair he did two full spins.
We spent the rest of the night taking shifts taking naps, keeping Julie awake, playing games. As the sun began to rise, only Jules and I were awake, telling meaningless stories from when we were kids. How different we grew up.
Julie and I were both dizzy with exhaustion, I only fell asleep for about 15 minutes, I was trying to stay awake for as long as she was. She and I laid on our backs on her bed, Alex asleep on Julie's window seat, Reg asleep in her bean bag chair, mouth hanging open.
