I'd Give Up Forever To Touch You

Chapter 11

Luke reappeared by the car a second later, Alex closed the passenger door and went to slide in the back with Reggie who was apparently yapping about the various places we could go. But the way he kept circling back around to it, it really sounded like he wanted to go to that burger place they all loved so much, the one on Sunset Boulevard. "Alright, alright, we'll go there!" Finally Alex groaned, hoping it would stop the never ending convincing.

Luke pulled the car out of the driveway and head towards the boulevard, the sun shining through his hair, that very 'Luke' look in his eyes. He turned towards me then, his eyes catching me staring at him, warmth spreading my cheeks. He smirked, that cocky grin of his making me shake my head and turn my attention to my phone, looking for music to set up. 

"You guys wanna listen to something new or some oldies? Or I guess to you guys that would be new music." I giggled to myself. "Hey! Respect your elders, Jules." Alex fake scolded me from the back seat. "Gross, that makes you guys sound like grandpas." I shivered, thinking briefly at how old they would be if they hadn't technically died. Instead of sitting on that too long, I started 'Say It Ain't So' By Wheezer, onto the cars radio. "Ooooh, Wheezer, nice." Reggie rolled down his window and pushed his hand into the wind as we drove, singing along. 

The next song on the queue was one I knew the guys wouldn't know, 'Iris' by the Goo Goo Dolls. Something that's always resonated with me but definitely more now.  The music flowed from the speakers, melting into my bones like it always does. 

"And I'd give up forever to touch you

'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't wanna go home right now." The sun warmed my face, making me realize I had closed my eyes, we were at a stoplight. I opened my eyes and looked over at Luke, staring at me with this soft look in his eyes. 

"What?" I laughed, flustered under his gaze. "Nothin, I like the song though. Keep singing it." The light turned green and his attention went back to the road, but his hand covered mine on the armrest. His thumb brushing over the back of my hand now and again, to the beat of the song. 

Turns out the burger place wasn't too far from the house, less than 15 minutes turns out. I almost wished it was longer, when Luke turned into the small parking lot behind the restaurant, he look his hand from mine. 

Luke managed to grab the last open parking spot, maybe 10 seconds before another car turned a corner towards us. "OH! Jules, I'm so excited for you to try the Dirty Fries here! They're so so good!" Reggie shook the car bouncing in his seat before all but falling out of the car. Luke poofed from the driver seat and to the outside of my door, making me jump. I forgot they can still do that, they're just such...people, now.  

My door popped open, a grinning Luke on the other side as I carefully climbed out of the car, he closed it once I was clear of the door. Alex and Reggie were already out of the car by the time Luke and I hit the sidewalk. Alex looked like he was the only thing holding Reg from running into the restaurant like an over excited puppy. "Come on, come oooooon." Reggie bounced on the pavement, looping his arm in mine right as Luke was about to do the same to my other arm, swiping me from him without a second thought. I will say, the shocked look on Luke's face as Reg pulled me to the building was pretty funny. 

"Reg, you act like a 5 year old at Chuck-E-Cheese or something." I laughed, being pulled up the handful of steps and through the doorway, bel sounding off above our heads. Reggie looked at me like I just said Star Wars was the worst thing to ever happen to Sci-Fi or something. "How dare you compare this place to Chuck-E-Cheese. That place is a haunting, insane asylum, walking nightmare of colors." Gotta say, the description was...graphic, in weird, vague yet specific ways.
