"HOW are things with you and Emmett?" Elexia asked Melody later that day.

Melody took a seat back on the bed next to Elexia. "Things are... good," Melody said, shrugging.

Elexia quirked a brow at her friend. "Oh?"

"We're taking things slow," Melody said, shrugging once more. She turned her face, hiding from Elexia. Suddenly, Elexia was sure that if Melody were still human, she would be blushing.

"That's good. I'm glad you two have each other." Elexia said with a small smile. "Things will start to make more sense as time goes on. You'll become more comfortable with each other."

Melody nodded, not adding any more comment to what Elexia said.

"How is everything going, with your vampirism and all that?"

"I'm coming to understand the good parts of it all." Melody admitted. "The speed, the strength, the Cullens... it's nice to have. I just... I do miss being a human." she laughed bitterly. "I complained a lot when I was human, but now, all I want is that back."

Elexia looked down, feeling horrible that Melody was turned against her will. She couldn't imagine what that was like. Every time Melody and Rosalie talked about the nature of their turning, it made Elexia's throat close up.

"I can't imagine what you're going through, Mel," Elexia frowned. "I'm so sorry."

"It's okay," Melody smiled warmly. "I'm getting better."

Elexia nodded, her empathy for Melody evident in her eyes. "You're incredibly strong, Mel. I admire how you're handling everything."

Melody chuckled softly. "Thanks, Lex. It's been a journey, that's for sure."

They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, the sounds of the house around them adding to the peaceful atmosphere. Elexia couldn't help but be grateful for these moments of quiet companionship with Melody, a reminder of the bond that formed when Melody first moved to Forks.

"How's everything with Rosalie?" Melody asked, breaking the silence gently.

A smile spread across Elexia's face at the mention of Rosalie. "It's wonderful, Mel. She's been my rock through all of this, and I couldn't ask for a better partner."

Melody's eyes softened with understanding. "I'm glad you have each other. You both deserve all of the happiness in the world."

Elexia's smile turned wistful. "We do, don't we? Sometimes, it's hard to believe how much my life has changed since coming to Forks."

"It's been quite the journey for all of us," Melody agreed, a hint of nostalgia in her voice.

As they continued to chat, sharing stories and reflections of their experiences, Elexia couldn't shake off the feelings of gratitude for the friendships and love that surrounded her and Gaia. She said– and thought– that a lot, but she really was so grateful.

When she was just seventeen, moving from Baltimore to Forks halfway through her pregnancy with Gaia, she didn't know what to expect. She was scared. Terrified, even. She didn't know what Forks would bring for her, or for Gaia, and she could have never predicted that she was going to get as lucky as she did.

"Lexi? Honey, are you home?" Austin's voice called from downstairs as he entered the house.

Elexia got up from her bed, walking out of her room and to the top of the stairs. "I'm here, Dad. So is Mel."

"Oh," Austin smiled. "Hey, Kid."

"Hi, Dad," Elexia grinned. "Hold on, we're gonna come down now."

"Alright. I'll be in the living room." Austin informed her as she stepped away from the staircase and went back into her bedroom to grab Melody and Gaia.
