FEBRUARY 2ND, 2006 — four months ago
Elexia was comfortably tucked into Rosalie's side, wrapped in a huge blanket. Gaia was sound asleep on Rosalie's chest as her two mothers turned the TV on to a random channel, desperate to quell their boredom.
It was snowing hard outside, and as much as Elexia loved her winter storms, it was far too windy and frigid outside for her to even enjoy it this time.
She was zoned out, nearly falling asleep when what was playing on the TV caught her attention. It was a show about a lesbian couple that had a child together through a sperm donor and insemination.
"Wow," Elexia whispered in amazement. "It's pretty damn cool what science has figured out. It's so amazing that queer couples can have kids of their own now, without having to adopt. Not that there's anything wrong with adoption."
Rosalie nodded. "Definitely amazing."
"I wish we could have another baby," Elexia said sadly as she glanced over to a sleeping Gaia, who just looked so perfect on Rose's chest. She wished she could give Gaia a sibling.
Rosalie was quiet for a long while. Finally, she said, "Why can't we?"
Elexia blinked up at her. "Uhhh... huh? What do you mean, Rose? We can't. You know that."
Rosalie motioned with her hand over to the TV, which was now showing the two mothers holding their newborn baby together. "Why can't we? All we would need is your egg and a sperm donor."
"I—" Elexia was at a loss for words. "You're right... we could..."
"Do you... Would you want to do that?" Rosalie gently asked. "I know how hard pregnancy was on you last time.. Trust me, if I could get pregnant for you, I would. We don't have to do this. But if you really want another baby..."
"No, no," Elexia shook her head. "Really, I would be willing to try if it meant getting to raise another beautiful baby with you, and give Gaia a sibling."
Rosalie smiled. "We could start trying next month?"
"Sounds like a plan." Elexia beamed at her, her blue eyes sparkling with a new sense of hope. "It sucks that your family isn't here and won't even be able to meet the new baby as a newborn."
"I know." Rosalie sighed. "But we can visit them the second the baby has enough immunity to travel. Besides, it's nice that it's so peaceful here in Forks now, as much as I do miss my family. A lot of chaos comes with so many vampires in a small area."
MARCH 12TH, 2006
For the past month and a half, Elexia and Rosalie had been searching for a sperm donor that felt right to them. They had help from Alice, who called them screaming the second she found out about their decision to have another baby. They told her not to tell the rest of the family, as they wanted it to be a surprise for later.
Eventually, Alice managed to find a donor that looked similar enough to Rosalie that the baby could pass as both of their child. He was in Virginia, though — but apparently Alice had that all handled. She was determined to give them their baby.
So, on March twelfth, Elexia found herself in a fertility clinic over a half hour away, ready to get pregnant. Her and Rosalie didn't want to get their hopes up too high, since they knew it could take a few tries before the pregnancy actually took. But Rosalie couldn't help it. She was pouring with happiness. Elexia and their children were all she ever wanted. Her only Dream in life.
