✦ Cat cafe ✦

"Get up."

You turned your gaze up from your book and looked over to where Dabi was standing with folded arms. He began to grow irritated as you didn't move from your spot on the couch.

"Excuse me?" you asked, raising a brow at the man.

"You heard me. Get up," he said again, his irritation shining through in his voice.

"Hmm, no." You flashed him the smile you knew always got on his nerves and returned to reading your book, ignoring the blue eyes glaring at you.

"We have a mission?!" Dabi said, sounding exasperated and annoyed, a perfect mixture for your own entertainment. The League had been laying low for quite some time, so you had to find other ways to enjoy yourself. Annoying Dabi was at the top of your list and it never failed to satisfy your needs.

"Mission?" you asked, lifting your eyes from your book again. You were genuinely confused now. As far as you were concerned Shigaraki hadn't assigned any missions, much less one you and Dabi had to go on together.

"We had to go spy on those UA brats, remember?"

You furrowed your brows and cast your vision to the side, trying to remember if Shigaraki had said anything and you had simply forgotten, yet you couldn't bring up any memories regarding UA. The last you had heard of them was when Shigaraki was venting to you about 'that green-haired fucker' and even that was quite some time ago.

"What UA brats?" you asked, looking back at Dabi again.

The man let out an annoyed groan, bringing a hand up to rub his eyes. "That two-toned kid and the green head," he grumbled.

"Midoriya and Todoroki?" you supplied, sounding confused. "Last I heard we were supposed to lay low. Not spy on anyone," you said again, eyeing Dabi with curiosity. "Unless..."

Dabi looked back at you with a quirked brow, waiting for you to finish your sentence.

"You know, now that I think about it, you have the same kind of obsession with Todoroki that Shigaraki has with Midoriya." You paused, looking at Dabi before closing your book and getting up from the couch.

"You've piqued my curiosity Dabi. Let's go."

"I always thought you were a dog person," you started, taking a sip of the coffee you'd ordered and eyeing Dabi as he petted the black cat on his lap. "But now that I'm looking at you, cats definitely suit you better."

Dabi only wrote you off with a hum, focusing his attention on the cat. You smiled and shook your head, looking back at the small table to your left where Todoroki sat with Midoriya.

Wherever Dabi got his intel, it was spot on. You had arrived at the cat cafe where the two students were said to be and found them at a table doing what looked to be homework. You and Dabi took a seat close by and ordered some coffee.

Breaking your gaze from the chatting students, you turned your attention back to Dabi who was still petting the cat on his lap, his coffee forgotten.

"Remind me why we're here again?" you said, drawing Dabi's attention back to you. When he only furrowed his brows you spoke again. "They're just doing homework. Nothing inconspicuous."

As if to confirm your statement, Dabi threw his gaze over his shoulder and eyed the two students at their table before looking back at you and letting out a sigh.

"Guess so," he said, scratching the black cat's chin.

"If you wanted to pet cats all you had to do was say so. No need to come up with an elaborate excuse of a so-called mission," you said, propping your elbow on the table and resting your chin in your palm.

"And risk sounding soft? No way," Dabi replied with a small laugh.

His playful reply caught you off guard, causing you to bite back the tease you had prepared. It had been a while since Dabi had been anything but angry and frustrated, you had almost forgotten what he had been like when you'd first met.

"Are you going to tell me why you're so obsessed with Todoroki?" you asked. This was the best chance you were going to get at asking Dabi about it. It seemed as though the cat was calming him a little, if his playfulness resurfacing was anything to go by.

Dabi let out a small huff before looking up at you. He made a move for his coffee and took a sip before placing the cup back down and looking back down at the cat. You were about to tell him not to worry about it before he beat you to it and spoke up.

"It's something I can't really tell you, at least...not right now." Dabi looked up at you again, his eyes shining with something akin to regret. "All I'm going to say is that me and Shoto have history."

You considered Dabi's words, landing on the use of Todoroki's first name. Shoto. Dabi never called the kid by his last name, which either meant that he had no respect, or that he must have known him quite well in the past. Or maybe...

You shook away the thought, saving it for later pondering.

With a hum, you took another sip of your coffee and looked over at Todoroki and Midoriya once again as they chatted over their work.

You and Dabi stayed silent for some time after that, the only sound being the cat purring on Dabi's lap and the background chatter of the other people in the cafe.

When the time came for the two of you to leave, you shot one last glance at the UA students, catching a glimpse of Todoroki's left eye, the sight all but confirming the suspicions you've had about Dabi for some time now.

You hummed to yourself and caught up with the man in front of you, flashing him a small smile. He returned it with a scoff seemingly annoyed, yet he stayed close by your side as the two of you walked back to the League's base.

If Dabi wanted to keep his secrets that was fine. After all, you had secrets of your own.
