"Thank you. Have a good night."

As the door to the cafe clicks shut, Hitoshi lets out a heavy sigh. He hates being on the night shift. His tolerance for social interaction was already low enough as it is, but he was much more irritable at night.

The cherry on top? He wasn't even scheduled for the night shift today. He was supposed to be at home right now, cuddling with his cat, but his dear old co-worker, Togeike, had a so-called 'emergency', and he was called in to take over her shift.

With another pained sigh, Hitoshi turns to look at the clock hanging on the wall. Just ten more minutes, then he can do some quick cleaning and close up for the night. He couldn't wait to get home.

The chime of the bell above the door catches his attention, and Hitoshi has to physically restrain himself from groaning in annoyance. Seriously. Who the hell comes into a cafe to buy coffee at 10 pm?

Gorgeous people, apparently.

The customer that comes up to the register is a guy shorter than Hitoshi, with blonde hair that had a streak of black that resembled something like a lightning bolt. His eyes, which had been hidden behind sunglasses, come into view when the guy takes them off to prop them on top of his head. They're an electric yellow, almost seeming to glow in the dim light of the cafe.

"Hi. What can I get you?" Hitoshi asks, cursing himself when his voice comes out slightly strained.

The customer smiles, pearly white teeth coming into view. Wow, could this guy get any more gorgeous?

"Hiya, handsome. Could I have a medium iced latte with 7 shots of espresso?"

Hitoshi's brows draw together in a frown, and he looks back up from the register with his lips curled in disgust. He's so shocked by the guy's order that he doesn't even register the fact that he called him handsome.

"I'm sorry?"

The customer only hums in question, lips still turned up into a smile.

"You heading to an early grave or something?" Hitoshi asks, voice laced with disdain. "7 shots?"

The blonde lets out a chuckle, crossing his arms and leaning forward on the counter.

"Yeah, I know it might be a bit overkill–"

Hitoshi mumbles a quiet 'a bit you say' under his breath as the customer continues.

"-buttt, it's the only surefire way I'll be able to get through the night," the guy finishes his sentence, shooting Hitoshi yet another wide grin.

Hitoshi is stunned. He has no idea what to say. So, without another word, he turns on his heel and starts on the guy's order. His grimace worsens with every shot of espresso he's forced to pour into the cup, but none the less, he gets it done and hands it to the guy without further comment regarding the absurd amount of caffeine.

"Your total will be ¥600," Hitoshi says, accepting the money and placing it in the register.

"Thank you very much..." The blonde pauses, squinting before another bright smile takes over his lips. "Yoshi," he finishes, and before Hitoshi can say anything, the bell chimes for a second time and the door clicks shut behind the customer.

What a strange night.

In full honesty, Hitoshi really shouldn't be so surprised. Togeike always has at least one 'emergency' every week, and for some reason, Hitoshi is the only person that's always available to cover for her. Only heaven knows why she always takes the night shift. The only reason he still puts up with Togeike's nonsense is because he gets paid for the extra shift.
