SMOKING A BLUNT while Nancy and Jonathon were on their way to meet up was probably not the best idea, but Valentina never claimed to make good decisions, and she desperately needed an escape from the events of the day.
While taking her second hit of the plant minutes after the first, she heard the screech of wheels pulling into the cul-de-sac outside her house, causing the blonde to quickly diminish the embers of the roll and stash it back into its hiding place in her closet.
She closed the window where her blonde head of hair had been blowing about in the breeze that drafted in, not daring to glance at the house across the street.
She'd heard the sound of the only other car in the street besides her own drive away about an hour ago and it hadn't returned since, providing the perfect opportunity to sneak into the owner of said car's backyard, again.
The two brunettes were walking up the driveway to Valentina's house when the girl came outside, casually swinging the brown-handled axe by the side of the dark gray denim she wore.
The loose jeans hung low on her hips, dipping below her belly button that was concealed by a black shirt. A brown leather jacket hugged her arms, shapelessly fighting against the Autumn breeze.
Of course, her black Converse were tied tightly around her feet, growing dirtier by the day.
Nancy wore a similar outfit; jeans a dark shade of blue with a fleece-lined red jacket. Jonathon dressed in all black minus the gray of his shoes and shirt.
Both teenagers were accompanied by bags on their shoulders and Valentina suddenly felt unprepared for this upcoming battle. Her bag was still sitting wherever she'd thrown it the other day... and the high was beginning to settle in.
Ignoring the unexpected awkwardness that resided in the silence among the three, they made their way to meet in the middle of the black pavement.
Valentina was the first to speak, clearing her throat and looking between her companions' eyes.
"So, are we ready to do this?" she asked, glancing at their choices of weapons.
Jonathon carried a wooden bat over his right shoulder and Nancy held a back revolver low by her thigh, held tightly between her fingers.
"As ready as we can be," Nancy said, breaking eye contact with the blonde to confirm Jonathon agreed.
He did, shown with a firm nod, and the three turned to walk in a staggered line toward Steve's house where they knew the monster traveled, Valentina falling into place at Nancy's left.
"Nice gun?" she joked casually, ignoring the impending doom that loomed over their heads as the hunt they planned for finally came to reality.
They had no idea how different it would be from just hunting an animal in the woods.
