VALENTINA'S ARM hurt like a bitch. So did her head, her leg, and did she mention her arm? That's because Jonathan was literally dragging her down the hallway toward the library, where he just saw Nancy walk into a couple minutes ago.
The boy immediately ran to grab Valentina and force her to coincidentally also have a study in the library. He found her in the middle of her hourly locker-stop, which is what Valentina named her sacred checkpoint to pop another pill. Unfortunately, Jonathan got to her before she'd even opened the plastic baggy and she had to stuff it into the back of her locker before he reached her.
The sight of her friend sprinting down the hallway with a gaping mouth and dripping sweat was one for the books—literally. As soon as Jonathan reached her, Valentina swiped his camera from around his neck and snapped a picture while he caught his breath.
And now, the boy was dragging her by the arm down that same hallway in the direction that Nancy had just went. Valentina wasn't very happy about the ache in her arm and her leg.
"Dude, I don't want to spend my free period studying!" she whined, planting her feet onto the slippery tiles of the hallway's floor, which did nothing to prevent Jonathan's strong pull. She was practically clawing at the hand wrapped around her wrist, while her brain was clawing at the plastic bag she stuffed into her locker once she saw her best friend coming.
"Isn't that what you're supposed to do in free period?" he retorted.
"So?"
"So?" he mocked, "Maybe you'd be passing if you actually put in the effort."
With a roll of her eyes, Valentina hmphed at Jonathan's words. If one of them wasn't stuck in his grasp, her arms would've been crossed over her chest. Despite the fact that she was still very much annoyed with having to spend her only break during school in the school, Valentina chose to stay silent for the rest of the trip. The grip on her right arm loosened after a bit and the two carried on, side by side.
Once they came up to the closed door guarding the quiet library, Valentina finally understood why she was spending the period in a silent workroom rather than in the safety of her car, shoving textbooks down her throat instead of tablets.
"Seriously, Jonathan?" she groaned, looking between the boy and the couple seated closely together at one of the tables.
"C'mon, Ti. It's not like we have to talk to them or anything. We're just studying." There was a smirk on his face, trying to act like this was purely lighthearted and not at all an opportunity to act on his feelings for Nancy—which, yes, he openly admitted to Valentina, but she couldn't do the same about hers.
Valentina rolled her eyes again, releasing a heavy, dramatic sigh with a drop of her shoulders that told Jonathan she wasn't happy, but she would do it anyway. The two gave each other one final look before Jonathan pushed open the doors, carrying both his and Valentina's backpacks on each of his shoulders.
