The air in the club room vibrated with tension after the turmoil moments ago. Everyone was doing their assigned things. Kiba just got back from a contract, his client a bit too much energetic for his taste.

Akeno was brewing some chamomile tea to calm everyone's nerves. Y/n's outburst took its toll in everyone's spirits, though they don't know why. Rias picked up a fleeting change the moment he glared at her, something barely there. His eyes, they... Flickered?

Koneko sat in her couch. Her pastries forgotten on the table in front of her, suddenly not looking so appetizing anymore. Running her eyes around the room, she watched as Rias looked at the abandoned pawn piece on her table.

Rias's expression remained mysterious, eyebrows furrowed, lost in her own world. She reached for the piece, as expected, her fingers went straight through it. She let out a sigh, heavy with indecision. "Akeno..." The raven-haired girl turned around, bringing with her a cup of steaming tea.
"Any news of the fallen angels activity?"

"Yes, I was told that they retrieved the nun. They're getting ready to that ritual right now, most likely to steal her sacred gear." She related, earning a raised eyebrow from Rias.

"So, they overpowered Y/n, huh?" She took a sip from her tea. As always, Akeno's tea was flawless. "Can't say it's surprising."

"Sadly." Akeno lamented, her expression turning serious. "Bucho-"

"I know," Rias cut her off, her expression mirroring Akeno's seriousness. "We just need to wait a little longer."

Just when they were about to discuss something seemingly important, steps, heavy and hurried could be heard throughout the halls leading to the clubroom.
The wooden doors slammed open, their attention turned to the figure of Y/n, wounded and bleeding on his head. His expression is one of pure, unadulterated rage.

"Y/n?! What are you doing here?" Kiba asked, feigning surprise. In fact, they were expecting him to come back, either for help or for the pawn piece.
Y/n paid no mind to Kiba's question, going straight to Rias table, snatching the piece and turning immediately.

"Y/n, wait." Rias took his wrist, earning an ugly glare. There it was again, the green flicker in his eyes. "I know what you're doing, or better yet, what you're going to do. But being now a part of my peerage, I can't risk losing you."

"Save your spit, I've already made up my mind." She got up and stood in front of him.

"I know you did, It's clear from the look on your face alone." She pointed. "But, I still can't afford the possibility of losing a precious member of my peerage." She insisted, Y/n avoided her gaze.

"It's not like I can't come and go from your peerage whenever I want, right? Plus..." He paused, meeting her gaze again, his eyes blazing with defiance. "It's not like losing a pawn would be the end of the world for you..."

"Shut your mouth!" She ordered, raising her voice. Y/n was taken aback by her sudden reaction. "Y/n, do you think the pawn is a an expendable part? That it has no value?" He just stared at her, unresponsive. Rias resumed. "Well, you're wrong. The pawn is the only piece who can do something the others can't..." She paused, letting her words sink in the hero's hardhead, pacing around him.

"Promotion. If a pawn reaches enemy territory marked by the king, that church for example, he can promote to every other piece of the board, except for the king." She explained. Y/n seemed lost. Promotion? Other pieces? What's that supposed to mean.

"So?" He asked, oblivious to the evil piece system. Rias went to explain what every piece does. The rook has high defense and attack. The knight has blinding speed. The bishop has its magical energy boosted. The queen has all of it at once, but since he was revived just recently, he was unable to use full potential of his pawn, the queen promotion.
