With a bit of flattering and well placed compliments, Edmund was in Y/n's hand. The merchant regaled Y/n with stories of Empires, kingdoms, duchies, villages, all kinds of civilizations, as well as a bit more of history.
Humans had their numbers reduced drastically after the great war, leaving the species on the brink of extinction. But as if it wasn't enough, the dangers of the world were another challenge they had to face in order to prosper and reclaim its former glory.
Each of the survivor species followed their own path, whether isolating themselves, like with the harpies, or using the world's situation to their advantage, as it was with the goblins.
Many were the ones who thrived, old kingdoms gave way to new ones, being built stone by hopeful stone. Old lineages being extinct as new ones had their chance to grow. These civilizations were now spread across the world, and even though far from their former numbers or glory, the humans were reclaiming their position on that new reality.
"That's all I know," said Edmund. "if you wanna learn more, go find a book. I don't have time for those things anymore."
"That was quite the story." Y/n said, leaning on the counter.
Edmund agreed with a slow nod. "Yes. You were asking how far away is the nearest civilization? Well, let me tell ya..."
Edmund explained enthusiastically a way of travelling using the stars as reference to know where you're going. Specifically, a constellation resembling a wooden bow.
Looks like this world has developed some of the methods of navigation as the earth, which was good for him.
Y/n would have to learn from scratch the position of the stars and which ones to use as reference to navigate through Terraria, at least until he had his hands on a compass. Instead of the demotivation one would feel, the stars had a mysterious appeal for the young man, as if their gravity were strong enough to attract his attention. It wouldn't be unheard of if he'd dive head first on those books with the eyes twinkling.
In the end, Y/n left Ed's Shop with Akeno close behind, giggling at her friend's persuasive ways.
"Nice going." She said. "Are you sure you're not some kind of detective?"
Y/n chuckled at the comparison. "I can't say I didn't heard that before. I had a lot of time to improve this ability of mine, persuasion. You should have seen the jumble mess I was in the start. I couldn't even say a 'hi' without stuttering!"
Akeno stood silent for a moment, probably imagining a stuttering and nervous Y/n as he tried to talk to someone, struggling. She laughed again, muffling the sound with her hand.
Embarrassed, Y/n scratched his cheek and looked away. "I came a long way since then..."
Hours later, after the sun switched turns with the pink moon, Y/n found himself in the underground base getting the items he'd need in the next adventure. Before he were to find other people, he wanted to, at least, be well prepared to any possibility.
"Torches... Ropes... Bombs. It's all here." He closes the chest's lid and got up, stealing a glance around the many chests, the majority was empty.
"This next adventure may be dangerous. I wonder if Kiba wouldn't mind giving me a little hand?" Pondered Y/n, and walked up the stairs to the kitchen.
Outside the house, the stars twinkled brightly, and the grass swayed gently to the chilly breeze that swiped through the landscape.
Y/n's eyes remained fixed on the distant point beyond the mountains, sweating nervously.
The thought of setting foot there, the very place that had him crying on his bed in his childhood, or at the very least, struggling not to throw his PC out the window, was terrifying and strangely exciting.
