Part 2: The Growing Pains of Surface Life

Over time, Helena adapted to surface life, which came after much struggle, frustration, as well as trial and error. For example, John tried to have her eat meals with cooked meats, grains, and vegetables, but found that she could only stomach raw fish, and had no interest in other foods. He found this out after he caught her eating a raw trout he was going to cook for a family gathering. He was irritated at first, but realized she had hardly eaten anything before, and it clicked - she went for chum when he met her. Also, she was pretty territorial with the fish.

They would soon try go to fish markets to buy fresh fish, but because of her looks, the people around were frightened, and the proprietors would kick the two out. John would try to argue it, but there were threats from the proprietors of calling the police and whatnot. One said that if he tried again, he and Helena would be banned, unless he came in alone. John was not happy,  but at least for a while, he would have Helena stay home to avoid the hassle. She did enjoy going on drives, however, so they would at least get in the car together and drive, but John would go alone to the market. Most of the time, there was no incident. There were other times where someone would see Helena in the car, and would harass or try to start altercations with her. This would anger Helena, and John would have to break up fights in order to avoid further trouble. There were also brushes with the law due to such situations.
