It was Orchid's bedtime. They were tucked nice and snug in their bed, blankie and their bunny, Maisy, in their arms. They were suckling on a pacifier. Their eyes were drooping, on the verge of sleep.

Orchid's room was nice and dark, with the exception of a lamp and nightlight glowing on their bedside table.

Paisley sat next to Orchid, reading Maisy's Wonderful Weather Book. Orchid absolutely loved Maisy, and always had plenty of books and videos of the white mouse. They even named their beloved bunny after her.

Paisley looked over at the stuffed zebra, who was trying their hardest to concentrate on the story. However, they were struggling to stay awake.

"Hey, gumdrop. Are you getting sleepy?" Paisley asked as she stroked Orchid's mane.

Orchid shook their head.

"More story," Orchid pleaded. "P'ease?"

"I don't know, baby. I can tell that you're about to fall asleep at any minute."

Orchid gave Paisley puppy-dog eyes, assuring them that they can stay awake for the book they were reading.

"Okay," Paisley chuckled. "How can I say no to the please face? Now, where was I? Oh, yeah. It's a windy day, hooray!"

Orchid yawned as they closed their eyes. They just needed to close them for a minute. They were getting heavy, anyway.

Paisley noticed this and smiled. She kissed Orchid's forehead and finished the story softly.

After the story was over, Paisley looked down and saw that Orchid was fast asleep. She slowly got up and put the book on the bedside table. They then turned off the lamp and left the nightlight on. They raised the bed rails so the stuffed zebra wouldn't roll off the bed and kissed them goodnight once more.

"Sweet dreams, gumdrop," Paisley whispered as she left the room and closed the door behind them.
