You two walk to the house and ring the bell. You are sure they wouldn't even come to the door as you could hear people laughing and loud music coming from the inside of the house.
Steve puts his hand on your hip
Mark opens the door "Ah the Hart's welcome" he says letting you two in
Mark and Steve hug and tap each other on the back "oh Sara you look beautiful" Mark says to you
"Thank you" you say with a smile. Steve was pretty embarrassed over the fact that he has a hard time calling you beautiful but a neighbour you guys have had for one day can do that.
You and Steve walk into the house and
you get instantly pull over to a different room by Ashley.
"Oh Sara you look great" he says "did you not bring the kids?" She asks as you look around and everyone seems to have kids
"No actually I don't have kids" you say. It's a pretty sensitive topic for you.
"Oh dose Ian not want any?" Another one of your neighbours asks. You always see her around but haven't had the time to talk to her yet.
"Oh I remember as soon as we moved into our house all Lucky wanted was kids" another girl says.
You were so surprised of how many and great neighbours you have. You just never talk to them but they all seem very comfortable with each other.
"Would you like to hold him?" Ashley asks as she puts her son in your arms.
"Oh wow I don't know I've never held kids-" you hold onto him. Hes so relaxed in your arms in a way it calms you down.
"He likes you. Usually he cries when ever a stranger hold him. Even when Mark holds him" Ashley says
"Oh he's so sweet and small" you say. You just want to keep him.
"You and Ian are very attractive people, i bet your kids will be beautiful" Molly says
"Yeah I see Ian on a morning run, every single day" another one says as they all laugh
"Tell us Sara how did you get so lucky with such a handsome man? Tell us what's you secret?" They all ask and wait for you to answer but you are so distracted with the baby. You payed very little attention to what they were talking about
"We actually met in Italy few years back" you tell them
"Oh Italy I've always wanted to go there" molly says "but after the kids you know everything gets so complicated. Sara enjoy this time with Ian because as soon as the kids come, it's over" they all agree to her
"I actually can't have kids" you tell them. Because you work for the Red Room you were forcibly sterilised so there is no way you could ever have kids.
"Oh Sara we are so sorry" one of them says and rubs you the back
"It's okay i got used to the idea" you say with a smile. As you just look at the baby.
There was a bit of a silence after that but it all got good again when they all tried the pie you made. Then the conversation shifted over to baking and other stuff. You we're thankful the baby talk was over.
The whole time you just held onto the baby keeping him close to you. All your life you've tried to stay away from babies because you knew you couldn't have any.
After two hour of being there people started to head home. You still there waiting for Steve.
Steve was in the study with Mark and few other guys. They all sit and smoke cigars.
"So Ian how's work?" One of them asks
"Good, it's going well" he says
"Yeah we can tell your house is amazing" Mark says
"Oh that's all Sara, she like to decorate it" he says "it's always spotless I don't know how she dose it" Steve tells them
"Ian she's a keeper. Your lucky man" one of the guys there says
"Yeah I really am lucky" he says
After being there for some time it was time to go.
Ashley was talking to you about her work when Steve knocks on the door "can I come in?" He asks
"Of course" Ashley says
Steve peaks his head first then walk in the room "evening ladies" he says as they all giggle "I'm just here to get my wife" he says looking around for you.
Then spots you on the couch holding a baby
"She's busy with the baby" Clare says as Steve walks up to you
"Who is this little fella?" He asks as you stand up still holding onto him
"This is baby Jack" you tell him
"Oh he's adorable" Steve says and looks down at you two "but we should get going" he says
"Okay" you say handing the baby back to its mother. Jack starts crying but soon clams down. "Good to see you all" you say and walk out
"bye Sara bye Ian" Molly says Ian's name in a flirty but joking way
"Bye ladies" Steve laughs as you two walk out.
"That's was fun" Steve says starting conversation
"Yeah it was really nice" you say "that baby was adorable" you say as you can't get it out of your mind.
"I didn't know you liked kids" he says "I guess there is a lot I don't know" he says "but if you really want we could give it a go" Steve says not knowing anything about you. Not even the fact you can't have kids
"Ian I don't know if I've ever told you this before, but I can't have kids. No medication can help" you tell him
"Oh" he says "I didn't know" he says looking down
"Yeah sorry I never told you. The topic never came up" you say
"Yeah it's okay. Not like we would be good parents" he says
You two get to the house and go inside.
